That's their current ages. They'll be nearly a year older by the time they are sworn in.

I would have been fine voting for Gabbard.

I'm not gonna say we need young people to become president. I am gonna say I feel worried when TRUMP is the youthful spring chicken of the lot.

Young people are scary and don't share the same cultural norms with anyone over the age of 50.

Because people accumulate experience and accolades over time and naturally the most qualified people are to be older as a result. Consequently most presidents are going to be around their 60s when they stand a good chance at winning the presidency, in no small part because they're competing against older individuals who have that experience and those accolades.

You don't magically just get experience and knowledge, that has to come with time.

Based solely on the debates, I kinda like Gabbard but I imagine if I seriously researched her I might not be that keen about her. The same is somewhat true of Klobuchar, but I followed a bit more beyond that simply because she stood a more legitimate shot. Honestly, this primary is pretty much a wash at this point. I don't particularly like Biden, but at least he's qualified whereas Bernie is shocking unqualified despite this long tenure (failing foreign policy questions even candidate Trump could have answered easily and then bragging about that lack of knowledge) and a dangerous zealot.

Most of that list isn't even running at this point and Gabbard might as well not be running.

Its not a matter of picking people for president, as it is a fact that older people are usually more settled and have the funds, experience, and political connections to run successfully without financial issues.

Young people are scary and don't share the same cultural norms with anyone over the age of 50.

They also tend to combine phenomenal ignorance and utter certainty in a highly dangerous mixture, which should probably be kept away from any position of actual influence as much as possible.

It's always worth remembering that the original foundation of the US government required lower-tier age limits for important offices (35 for President, 30 for Senate, 25 for Rep) at a time when those ages meant far more than they do today. Back then you were pretty much an adult by age 16. These days most people seem barely adult by age 30. Back then, the assumption was a life-expectancy of somewhere around 35-40. Using that standard, we should be electing Presidents today who are in their mid-70s.

If anything, we should probably be raising things like voting age and government age requirements to better reflect current conditions and socio-intellectual shifts rooted in technological advancement. The Industrial Revolution created the concept of the "teenager" for the first time in human history, and the Technological/Computer/Digital Revolution of the 20th century basically redefined young adulthood. As we continue to lengthen life expectancy, we're also effectively extending the period of functional childhood/emotional immaturity at the start of that life expectancy. Most cultural institutions have yet to adapt to those changes, and most people will resist those sorts of changes because they'll feel like it's disenfranchising, but maybe those sorts of changes are something we should be considering nonetheless.

This, tbh. When I raised the issue on our shitty Politics board, a lot of people whined about me even asking about it.

This and most Trump excluded have had enough time in the government it seems like they have expierence. Recall that it was one of the biggest (imo halfway legit) things griped about with obama. That he lacked expierence in the government.

Also for those who actually do research on candidates it gives them more data the longer theyve been in the government on which to judge them by.
