For the longest time I would of said New Vegas. However I recently played Fallout 3 completing it 100% as well as New Vegas and between the 2 I've gotta say 3 is the better Fallout. Even though I've got more hours on New Vegas (2800+ hours) vs (1200+hours) on 3, Fallout 3 dose the best at capturing the feeling of being alone in a wasteland. New Vegas is great and has a better story, weapons, and characters however it only really shines when you have mods to enhance it. Where as Fallout 3 works fine without mods.
As for other Fallouts the original is better then 2, but that's only because 2 doesn't take itself as seriously as 1 and I prefer the serious tone of 1 more then the dark humor that 2 has.

Here's a list of how I'd rank them from best to worst.

1. Fallout 3
2. Fallout new Vegas
3. Fallout 4
4. Fallout
5. Fallout 2
6. Fallout brotherhood of steel
7. Fallout shelter
8. Fallout tactics
9. Fallout 76.

Now dont get me wrong the original Fallouts will always be classic games. However they're old and I'm not much for retro gaming so playing them today is more a chore and nostalgia trip then an actual fun gaming experience. Even though I played them both a dozen times each.
Fallout 4 is a great game and I still play it all the time (4000+hours) however it hasn't really added anything new. It also needs a lot of mods to get it going. I love it but again it's a big been there done that kind of game.
Brotherhood of steel is a guilty pleasure of mine. It was my first Fallout game and I enjoyed it a little. Though I'd never recommend it.
Fallout shelter is the only phone game I played and liked. It's a fun little time killer that I'd recommend because it's free.
As for tactics and 76 well I never played them. Tactics seems a bit weird and honestly from what little I've seen I'm not interested. And 76 can die a slow peasants death as far as I'm concerned.

So yeah I'd say Fallout 3 is the best Fallout IMO.

That's pretty much my same sentiments, though I did like New Vegas better than 3.

It's probably worth mentioning what a bitch 3 can be to play if you don't have an Xbox 360 version, since the PC version doesn't play nicely with operating systems beyond Windows XP (wtf), and the PS3 version runs kinda poorly. Only the Xbox 360 version doesn't come with stupid caveats, and it's also one of those backwards compatible games on Xbone.

Fallout 3's also the only game where I completed every single piece of DLC, so, that's a thing too

I loved Fallout 4 a ton, its my favorite in the series, and one of my favorite games of the decade. Maybe its because I love Boston so much.

They built a fucking CITY in Fenway Park!!!

I could do this all day.

If you would of asked me a year ago I'd of said New Vegas was the better game too. I only changed my stance recently after I 100% both games. I just like the "feel" of 3 a bit more.

Yeah that's a good point I should of mentioned. I mean I've got Fallout 3 on Steam and it works fine..... as long as you download the patch. I haven't had any problems running Fallout 3 with it, however I have heard some people have had problems. The patch is easy to find (it's stickied in the steam comment section) and all you due is download and run it.

I wish Fenway had been a desolate ruin but makes sense it was a made into a city.

The game has its issues and fallout is way better as a single player game, but fallout 76 is a lot more fun than it gets credit for

I can't replay 1 or 2 , but they were great for the time (just too slow now)...man I had crazy patience back in the day.

Fallout 3 was so freaking good, I have replayed it more then NV, but I loved NV a ton as well, it's so hard to choose between them tbh, they are both amaze balls. I love them with a passion.

I STILL have not even come close to finishing Fallout 4.....I do plan on trying yet again....sometime. It's too close to a FPS for me though, which always turns me off, or something else comes along and distracts me.

Maybe 76 got better but it blew chunks at launch. It was like a watered down...worse ...version of fallout 4, with a ton of game crashing bugs (still in I guess, I just didn't play fallout 4 long enough to get hit by them?).

I keep trying to play fallout 4 again....but what I really want..and probably why I never get far, is to just replly fallout 3 and NV again because I know I enjoy them lol.
