I live 2 miles away from the life care center in kirkland wa where all the deaths are occurring.

26 of 29 deaths in state have come from assisted living centers with 21 so far from the one center.

lockdowns are happening in this area soon. Schools closed.

But cmon....relax. its not like this person had Ebola. And its not like Seattle is only place that has it. And the only reason there are so many deaths is cause assisted living places have got hit.

Yep. Even though we only have 3 cases right now (and they've all been quarantined in their own home) our governor issued a public health emergency and is doing everything in her power to keep it contained. Quick and thorough response, I like it.

Yep it is great though Apparently their entire community of teachers were blindsided and found out through twitter. Been seeing a lot of people acting like Cuomo made the decision without consulting the CUNY/SUNY heads and now they scrambling to get it done. I wonder how labs are gonna be done since that doesn't translate well to online.

Yeah, labs will be a problem. Personally, I don't think it's that insane for Cuomo and his team to make that decision without the heads. Whenever there's a major snow storm, the heads have always referred to the governor to decide closings and whatnot since the days of Pataki from my experience. A lot might argue against it as well.

A lot of things are leaving it up to their governors to decide because they don't want to cancel. Anime Boston doubled down again a few hours ago saying unless the state forces them, it's still happening, which seems stupid in light of today's news.

Their reported recovery rate and new infections are not at all consistent with what we're seeing.

My state only has 2 confirmed cases (in my city too, yay). Even with just that small amount a local private school has closed, as well as Tulsa University. Public schools should do the same with only 2 days left until spring break, but they won't.

Most people don't even realize China was suppressing and downplaying the information in the first place. This is what angers me the most about the societal response. Even on this board, you have people thinking "it's just the flu", "this is annoying", and wholly being duped into believing the government's words of "It's gonna be alright". Even worse, I posted the 4chan link in another topic of the guy who had legitimate insider information as evident by bringing up Italy's situation before it came into place. And guess what, got modded for spreading conspiracy theories.

Anyhow, one day at a time.

same but private sector in biotech. Company has measures in place like all meetings canceled but at the same time wont scale production or lower head count. We have the shifts segregated but that means nothing cause we still have people working on multiple shifts for projects and we had two people arrive from Manila this past weekend without being screened and another who was in Korea last week not screened. We also had our Singapore plant here the last two weeks working gets closely with our lab.

so even the measures in place are half assed if were being honest. This is SoCal for anyone wondering.

read that they arent testing blood donations for the virus, so if a hospital gets a bad pint of blood and gives it to a patient then its like a silent spread.

If you're gunna get it anyways theres not much point in delaying the inevitable. Work/school shut down? Okay now you gotta buy food. Or what if you run our of alcohol? What if after the quarantine you resume life then catch it a day later?

seems like it's just everywhere in the country already and the only reason we haven't known is because we weren't testing for it.

wonder how many people went to the hospital for the flu or died from it and really had coronavirus

I work in a nursing home and now everyone that comes in has to do an electronic questionnaire about if they've had flu symptoms or left the country or came in contact with anyone who did

I didnt say taking precautions was dumb, I'm saying that what people are doing may help their individual odds slightly but realistically you might as well just prepare to get it and live your life normally. Your chance of death is like 1 maybe 2% tops. Not really much to worry about for a healthy person tbh
