Due to the travel ban, I would imagine a lot of tours, shows and festivals are going to cancelled as well.

Today has been a tidal wave of news, and I would imagine today is going to send a ripple effect to everything

Im just in awe right now. Ive been following this since it was just breaking out in Wuhan. I feared this day would come where it just suddenly blew up everywhere. I expected this..... but Im still in complete disbelief. I have no words.

still not as bad as the flu when comparing yearly infection and mortality rates

Couple cases in my area so my concern is growing. Also stores in town look like literal end days shelves in movies with empty and messy shelves. People are freaking out.

I'm not really but I am concerned.

If so, NCAA season is probably over too.

Italy has one of the average ages in the world, were basically blindsided, and have one of the lowest number of hospital beds per capita in the world. They have 3.4 beds per 1000 people, which is a shockingly low number for a sudden outbreak like this (And for reference, the US has even lower numbers than that). And the disease has been hitting the oldest part of their population hard. For reference, the most recent statistics I can find show that over 75% of all confirmed Coronavirus cases in Italy are 50 or older, with 22% coming from people 21-50. And more than that it seems like they just handled this incompetently and it's costing them.

If you look at South Korea, who we have no reason to distrust, they have over 8000 cases, less than 100 deaths in a longer time frame than Italy. A big part of that is probably the fact that South Korea has 3 times the number of hospital beds than Italy per 1000 people, and South Korea is not nearly the tourism/travel magnet that Italy is.

To add to that, Japan has a mortality rate of 0.3% and one of the oldest age groups in the world. So there's way more going on in Italy than "China is lying".

Expect the US hospitals to go triage very, very quickly and see a lot of elderly individuals sent home with zero treatment because there are more urgent, more realistically savable lives. It's a terrible thing, but it's going to happen. It's already happened in Italy and I would almost guarantee it starts happening in the US.

I had a chance encounter with an epidemiologist today. They predicted wed be at that point in ten days. In five days it will be obvious how fucked we are.

So hopefully their five day prediction will be wrong. But if not, I expect that the ten day prediction will follow.

I saw a chart that compared the growth to Italy and the US is about four days from when Italy found out how fucked they were. Good luck guys. Gonna be a rocky few months.
