It's really depressing whenever I think this. Should I even bother with a cover letter?

I must have these answers.

First, you really should find out if the place you're applying to expects one. If the answer's yes, then, absolutely. Don't give them any reason to discard your application without even looking at it.

But if they don't, then don't bother. It all really depends on who's gonna be looking at it.

1) List your accomplishments.
2) Write the cover letter anyway.

Don't fucking lie, that is the dumbest advice ever. What you do is you describe who you are, not stuff like age, sex, race, sexual preference, but why you are soemone an employer should give a shit about.

Don't "Lie" but feel free to overplay your assets. If you are capable of working for long periods of time without crying about it, maybe list that you are a high energy high stamina person who is capable to giving their all on the job for the entire workday.

Maybe brag about not being addicted to your phone or social media?

Don't mention that you went to a public online forum to solicit advice though.

Your cover letter is often the MOST important part of getting your resume read. if you do not hook them, they just move your resume to the reject pile.

Try and show that you are eager, motivated, passionate about working and how you think that a good work ethic and drive is more important than a long list of experience because just because a person has had 15 jobs, doesn't mean they were a good employee at any of them.

oh and if you do have social media accounts, SCRUB THEM. Delete anything that you would not want your Grand parents to read, unless they are just cool people, in which case, still SCRUB IT.

Facts > opinions everyday. Don't get butthurt at someone, verify that you have the facts on your side so as not to end up with "EGG" on your face.

Ive never worked for an employer that cared about things like cover letters. If its a place that gets a ton of resumes though they might discard any that dont follow a simple format for them to quickly get key info. So you may as well make one

If a job asks you for a cover letter and you don't provide one, your resume will be thrown out. Period. Your cover letter should mostly consist of highlighting relevant parts of your resume and explaining how they make you well-suited for the job. Your accomplishments don't really feature into that; they belong more on your resume. If you don't have a lot of relevant experience (which can include school or volunteer activities as well as actual employment, if you need to flesh it out a bit), focus on your skills, how you've demonstrated them, and how they'll be applicable to the job you're seeking. Your cover letter is an opportunity to explain why you think you'll be a good fit for the job. You can highlight just about anything you want, provided you can tailor it to that end.

More often than not, the resume gets read before the cover letter, despite what the name "cover letter" would suggest. Employers will often only bother reading the cover letter if the resume has enough interesting content that they expect that further elaboration will be worth their while, since it's pretty easy to skim a resume in a matter of seconds, whereas reading a cover letter takes quite a bit longer.

Just flex your marketing skills.

For example, I'm 36... I'll just add "Over 20 years experience in applied biology"
