I was disappointed to see it at first, I'd love a minifig Peach's Castle or something like that, but they're for kids so I can't really be mad they didn't make something to appeal to me.

This looks disappointing. It doesn't look visually appealing for display, nor fun to play from the brief minute clip.
But, nice to see LEGO and Nintendo finally together. Hopefully this leads to some real sets in the future. I think there is a 2 year period of life where this would have been my most wanted thing in the world. I never would have played with it after the second time. It just seems so cool, but like the robot dog and ferbies, it wouldn't actually be fun.

It looks like the kids might enjoy the mechanics of it, but it also looks too ugly for them to be interested in. I like the "make your own course" vibe they went with, but, this has issues. Lego is very much something that devolves from its intended usage into "Mario and Gandalf are going on dates with the Friends and Disney Princesses" and I feel like this set doesn't work like that.
I do think we'll be getting Mario blind bags. (watch me eat my words and buy a hundred dollars worth of these Mario sets for Christmas) all I ask is that they don't screw up Zelda.
