I expect better from americans and help out their fellow citizen in a time of need Yes but the people who ignored them have nothing to feel ashamed about. They have themselves to worry about No. I would wish for a better american society but this doesn't surprise me. Americans are selfish No. it sucks but it's a dog eat dog world. People have themselves to worry about and have no obligation to help others 25% (3 votes) 3 25 y/o Rebecca Mehra had tweeted about her experience helping out an elderly couple after hundreds of shoppers IGNORED their desperate plea to help them buy groceries!! She said she heard a woman in a car Sobbing UNCONTROLLABLY to her pleading with her to help them buy groceries as she and her husband were afraid to to go inside the store as Rebecca became emotional when she heard their plea and went in to buy them their roceries. It happened in Bend, Oregon as the elderly 80 something year olds were outside a Safeway and yelled for people to help as people ignored their cries for help and Rebecca walked over to hear her cries as the woman explained in tears that they were afraid to go in because of the coronavirus and no one would help them. They were afraid to get sick because they were in their 80s affecting older people disproportionately and they don't have anyone to help them. She gave her a 100 dollar bill and asked if she could get them groceries which she did that had basic necessities including toilet paper where Rebecca described was a MADHOUSE in there. There was nothing in the cleaning section including hand soap nor toilet paper. She only bought groceries for her and placed it in her trunk and gave back the change as she waited 45 MINUTES until someone came to help She said "I know it's a time of hysteria and nerves but offer to help anyone you can. Not everyone has people to turn to. I did feel a sense of confusion and nerves in the store but also a sense of..we're all in this. We all have to take care of eachother. It was the first time i thought about how much this is really affecting my community. It hurts to see people ignore people who need help and people turning their backs on others." She's hoping this will inspire others to help people, especially elderly people who at most risk because they need them at a time of crisis. Over 11 million people have read her story and were touched by what she did Rebecca is a professional runner and works part time as an assistant to Democrat Bend Mayor, Sally Russell.
