In any case, there should be some immunity, which should help a bit in mitigating the worst case scenario. If it's that you aren't really cured but there's very small traits that may become dormant to later reappear, also still good. And if it's like chicken pox/shingles, fine as well. Afaik the reason you can get the cold multiple times a year is that there are actually a bunch of different viruses that all have similar symptoms (including some coronaviruses!) and which we identify as "colds." It is true that immunity lasts different amounts of time for different viruses, though. This is the lenten season, so really the worst time for this to happen to the catholic church.
