Do you think this is considered "socialism"?

Yes i understand that it's to help families who are going to be burdened and hurt by the covid-19 outbreak and people are gonna lose a lot of money or even their jobs...

But now with this stimulus package coming to give american $1000 as a temporary benefit to help them..wouldn't this be considered SOCIALISM? the same term Trump and his alt-right trolls love to call liberals who want to give money to "un-deserving" people??.

If every american is gonna get a 1000, i assume that includes people who aren't working either and even rich people will get the money cause it's "every" american no matter what their employment and status is.

So why is it suddenly now okay to give poor people this money yet it's not okay to give everyone healthcare to help them with those high costs too?

Not exactly, no. Socialism/Communism are both primarily concerned with people/workers owning the means of production and people/workers benefiting from generated profits rather than those things only going to a select few.

UBI and variants are not inherently socialist, though by typical American standards of what constitutes socialism I suppose it is, lol.

Is it socialism to do something to assist people with tax dollars? Yes.

Police, roads, public schools, it's all socialism if it is paid for by tax dollars.

Not really, considering it's a one time emergency benefit rather than a drastic change with an ongoing payment or something.

You got it backwards

Socialism is every person giving $1000 to the government to maintain a sleeping military.

Is this going to be just a gift of $1000, or is it like the last time the government "gave" everyone money but it was actually a loan on your tax return.

Yeah. Makes sense, I guess. So, how do they know? And what about people with cut hours?

That sounds so fucking dumb. The logical solution is to expand unemployment to cover people who lose jobs due to the pandemic who might otherwise be left out (ex. below) and fund it to last longer than usual / handle the heavier burden.
The ONLY positive of a big stupid blanket handout of $1000 was that it's simple to implement. Just...give it to everybody on the IRS tax rolls or whatever database is best to use. No thought required.

You start trying to determine who's working and who's not and it's like...why not just fucking expand unemployment, then?!

Good question.
Got a haircut this week (figured I wouldn't be able to soon...). Barber was pretty worried, understandably. Not just about getting sick, but also economically. He owns the business and is self employed, so by normal definitions would not qualify for unemployment if he closed up (I think there's legislation planned to expand it to people like him for this unique situation?). But it's his only income and he has to pay for the property. He had cut down his hours but stayed open for now.

I guess this hand out would fuck him over if he kept operating limited hours?

Citation needed.

Absolutely every article online right now has stated that every adult would get at a minimum $1000 under the current proposals with some proposals granting more money overall and some only granting more money if you have children. Nothing at all has suggested that if you work you wont get paid especially since many people have likely seen reduced hours even if they havent been temporarily suspended due to the outbreak.

This is ignorant. A lot of people have having reduced hours due to there being less business going on even if they are still working.

Is this a real thing? I've never worked a day in my life, so it would be nice to have PS4 money, since I can't go out and get a job anyway.

E.I., welfare, labor laws, disability, unions, and public works infrastructure projects are all socialism. America just picks and chooses what it allows to apply that label to because it gets triggered seeing the word despite practicing aspects of it.

The German Empire was pretty conservative under Bismarck, but he still instituted a ton of reforms like those because he wasnt a dumbass and knew which way the winds were blowing.
