  • Developed by Tri-Ace and not Square Enix (Tri-Ace has always been a solid house)
  • Builds up on XIII's awful battle system to make it passable.
  • Amazing Soundtrack

I liked the idea behind 13's battle system... just didn't care for Paradigm Shifts that much

13-2 is still my favorite FF by far

fixed almost all of my complaints with 13-1 and threw in wacky timey plot for good measure

also the ending is still utterly hilarious to me

I thought 13-2 was eh but I have to admit I didn't think they'd go that route in the ending. It was hinted at but still crazy to see especially with the hopeful music playing in the background.

I agree. I could actually finish that one. First one I've tried like 4 times and always give up. 2 does everything better.

I finished XIII, but not XIII-2. I liked it. Just never finished. I didnt really have any complaints about the first one, though...

My problem with XIII-2 is that with some rubber bands (and maybe a turbo controller, I forget) you can max out your characters super early and its not fun when youre maxed out.

i loved xiii and xiii-3. 2 was good still

In FF XII you can setup gambits to auto level once your a reasonable way into the game and you just need to setup the controller to run around automatically.

In VII you can rubber band and turbo controller your way in circles (maybe also in 8 and 9 but idk).

In X you can fight the dingo repeatedly with a turbo controller and rubber band in the arena.

Ok, it both is and isn't.

I like the idea of it, and concede that it's unpopular...

But BS? Yes, there's something sinister about this... and that's 100%ing a monster. Because the requirements to get a perfect monster are so precise, being about on par with Pokemon, it actually killed my interest in the game due to my obsessive personality with min/maxing.

You don't actually need to min-max the monsters to complete the superboss tho.

I know, it's not a problem with the game itself - it's a problem with me and the way I play games.

I agree that it deserves a better reputation than it gets, though I won't go as far as to call it a good FF just yet. I mainly hate that it leads us into the third game of the trilogy, which is a game I absolutely despise.

Same. I liked XIII. I understand the criticism, but to me it was like X, my fave, so I was down. I really hated that LR had real time combat and even less characters.

I wouldn't say I liked 13-3 more than average, but I thought it was neat closure to the trilogy. 13 went off the rails into weirdness pretty fast, and 3 was at least kind of unique for an FF.

I much preferred XIII though XIII-2 was alright. The gameplay was fun to try out but the story was a little too convoluted to keep me interested.

13-2's story was itself not taking itself very seriously at all. Things happened blatantly because they had to for the plot. Hell I think I enjoyed it more because I knew I couldn't take it seriously. It was just magic school bus time exploring the past, present and future AUs.

I enjoyed this ride as well, and the fact I could make an army of multi-colored chocobos. Throw in the Rambunctious Chocobo theme, and there was no way I wouldn't like this game, even with its ending.

XIII-2 was the only one of its trilogy that I started out liking - XIII took some warming up to, and LR's time limits frustrate me. I love time fantasy though, so 2 was bang on the fannish target for me.

13-3's time limit is an actual literal joke though

i usually dislike them too, but you have the power to basically stop time for as long as you want as long as you keep fighting every now and then

Indeed. You have all the time in the world (quite literally) to eradicate every enemy and still have tons to spare.

In other words, the time limit matters as much as skipping forward however many centuries along with everyone else and lol no one has aged and everything's basically the same as it had been before the skip.
