I have a friend/former roomate who is traveling around and living out of his car (by choice), but everywhere is closing down. He would use gyms for showers etc but now they are all closed. He has a car and is traveling to a new area, but many homeless don't have that option (and even he may find it doesn't matter where he travels in the near future if everything closes down everywhere).

What are homeless people supposed to do, and what the heck are they doing with them if they do test positive for the virus, do they send them back out on the street and say, congratulations you have the virus, not don't go near anyone?

Seriously we need some kind of plan for the homeless populltion, of which there is a ton in WA and CA (probably oregon as well). I hear its' pretty bad on the east coast as well.

a lot of areas have had success providing them with basic housing and helping them slowly take steps to get back on their feet or get whatever care they need

some people are against it but the cases Ive read about actually ended up saving money compared to other methods of dealing with the homeless community

Yeah, I totally support that as a long term solution, but I mean right now, we need to take some steps to deal with the homeless right away. I heard they are talking about putting them in hotel rooms for free.

I personally think every American should be guaranteed a job that pays enough to rent a small place, feed themselves and get adequate health care. I don't care too much how that happens, but I think it should be a basic right. I wish FDR had lived a bit longer.

The UK government apparently have some kind of funding in place for the homeless during these times. I don't know the exact details but the USA should follow suit and any other country where possible too.

I know the CA governor has been talking about trying to work things out with motels and other places to get them off the streets and such for the duration if this. How successful or fast this process will be, I have no idea. For that matter, I don't know how much of that's lip service, but the fact they brought it up at all means there's a decent chance he's actually trying to so something.

I mean, I was homeless at 16 (lived on rooftops) and I was clean etc, but many homeless are not, and I imagine just moving them into hotel rooms would have serious long term complications for those hotels/motels. I would hope they would be respectful, but I gotta look at my brother, and others I have known, who were homeless (and not even mentally ill) and the fact they leave an absolute wreck in their wake, to know that it's probably not going to end well if you just move in into hotels/motels.

Not saying not to do it, but yeah, I can see problems down the road if you do.
