I know it's a board game, but I see it's on sale on Steam right now as well. Is it any fun to play? Thinking about getting the $5 video game to see if I like it or not

I HATE IT. If you love the concept of putting down railroads to connect cities interesting by all means get it. It's something akin to Catan's roads system I guess. I also hate Catan too. I find both games boring I'm more into Coop games so you might not like my opinion in general and find it of less value. Maybe put down games you like so you can find something out?

I haven't played Catan yet, but I have played the Space version of it, lol. It's kind of the same game, but in space!

But yeah, I don't know if I would like it or not. I like board games, but it just never appealed to me. Just wanted to see if I was missing out since it seems to be very popular

I play often with people who love boardgames and probably have a collection of over 50 games in a lit up sanctuary/shrine situation thing, and they absolutely love Ticket to Ride. The game is popular for a reason and it seems board game enthusiasts love it. I just find it hilarious people flip out over a game where you're train companies literally placing down tracks connecting cities and find it fun. I guess in general I don't like competitive games where you can actively hinder someone else with your actions like Ticket to Ride and Catan. Something like Dungeon Dice drop however is different, or something like worker placement games I find somewhat ok, but because Karen over there placed her tracks before you did, guess what you're out go build the fuck somewhere else. Augh makes me fume thinking about it.

Again coop games are more in line with me like Betrayal at House on the Hill I find more interesting or Mice and Mystics.

You can get Tabletop Simulator and download a Ticket to Ride set from the Workshop on Steam. There's 4 "USA" sets, and a couple spin-offs like the Soviet Union.

They don't have reviews so I don't know how good they are, though.

it's a good intro to Euro-style boardgames game, but if you're already into them it's pretty light.

@Rainbow_Dashing Have you played Pandemic?

There was also another game I played at my brothers that was kind of co-op. There is one killer in the house and they have an objective and then the rest of the players team up to escape and/or survive. Lots of different scenarios

it's not nearly as complicated as it might look from the number of pieces and big board/box. it's pretty fun and I think its best point is that it's good to play with people who aren't really into complex board games since it's interesting without being overwhelming

it's not really much like catan either I dunno what that's about lol

it's a fun game but it's not very balanced. you get penalized way too heavily if your goals are short and you have to build short paths. transcontinental goals and long rails are the way to go if you want to win.

ticket to ride europe is a more balanced version and much more fun as it solves a lot of the issues the original version had (less 5-6 car long rails, introduction of connection hubs, more connections in central locations, etc).

Sounds like you're talking about Betrayal at House on the Hill. That's one my group plays a lot-- there's a 'legacy' version that is my absolute favorite board game ever.

I haven't played Pandemic, but the game you're talking about sounds like Betrayal at House on the Hill. You're exploring a house and eventually a haunting happens and one of you betrays the rest (sometimes no traitors).

I just thought of it similar to Catan's roads in aspect to the victory card of longest road. That's why. But I agree with the sentiment that it's a simpler game. That also has an impact on what I like. I don't know why, but I love reading manuals and just thinking about the rules for a while and asking if certain things can be done etc.

Pandemic is really fun. Good game to play while drinking too.

I'm not as crazy about the legacy version of it though.

I'm a fan, I own 4 versions of the board game for different countries. There's strategy to it, but it's pretty chill and casual. It's tough to recommend games like this because there's such varied tastes in games like this, but it's among my favorites.

I've played Quacks once and it was pretty fun. I'd go for it again if I had the chance. Sadly my tabletop club I was going to is currently in hiatus due to the corona (along with the rest of my social life for that matter).

Quacks is a great casual RNG-ish game with nice components.

The King's Dilemma is really great if there's a group of people that will dedicate their time to it.

Root is an excellent experience that may falter on replayability in the long term, but it's pretty unforgettable.

Pandemic Legacy is the GOTY from a few years back. Also requires a dedicated group.

Terraforming Mars is really satisfying and the expansions from what I recall are just big globs of more content.

I think I've heard Taj Mahal is really good but I don't remember. Same for Parks, Gates of Delirium, Tapestry.

White Chapel is solid but a little outdated (But I always found hidden move.ent to be a bit fiddly or off)
