If you watch the full clip, Trump actually was saying that, and the reporter followed up by accusing him of putting an optimistic spin on things. When is ripping in to the guy, he says flat out that people need hope and solutions.

Sure it's not the best way to handle things, but that guy was obviously just looking to get a reaction out of him, and he deserved to get called out for it.

I want a president who takes some level of responsbility for the things he says and remains professional when addressing the public. I hold higher expectations of the president of the United States than I do any news reporter. No matter their history, his response to that question is awful.
