UPDATE: A quick update on backward compatibility With all of the amazing games in PS4s catalog, weve devoted significant efforts to enable our fans to play their favorites on PS5. We believe that the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable on PS5.

Were expecting backward compatible titles will run at a boosted frequency on PS5 so that they can benefit from higher or more stable frame rates and potentially higher resolutions. Were currently evaluating games on a title-by-title basis to spot any issues that need adjustment from the original software developers.

In his presentation, Mark Cerny provided a snapshot into the Top 100 most-played PS4 titles, demonstrating how well our backward compatibility efforts are going. We have already tested hundreds of titles and are preparing to test thousands more as we move toward launch. We will provide updates on backward compatibility, along with much more PS5 news, in the months ahead. Stay tuned!

I can't really think of any ps4/x1 era game I'm going to want to go back to. Now, ps2 era, so many good jrpg and ace combat I would love to play again on a system with an HMDI output, upscaling a bonus on top

I thought it only existed ~2500 PS4 games.

I call bullshit. Sony like last week was telling everyone they were going to make the top 100 games by playtime BC to start, and now that everyone is complaining they're suddenly like "everything will be BC!" Sounds like them trying to cover their ass to me.

"Running PS4 and PS4 titles at boosted frequencies has also added complexity," Cerny said. "The boost is truly massive this time around and some game code can't handle it. Testing has to be done on a title-by-title basis. Results are excellent, though. We recently took a look at the top 100 PlayStation 4 titles as ranked by playtime, and we're expecting almost all of them to be playable at launch on PlayStation 5."

im semi excited for it because i never bothered getting a ps4 pro and there are a number of ps4 games i own but havent gotten around to yet.

Really doubt it. They're backpedaling because people blasted them the other day for that "100 best PS4 games" bs. There's no way they'll even get to what MS has done with Xbox One's bc.

i'd play all the top tier ones again just for 60fps.

even a fricking stable 30fps for until dawn would be worth it.

Probably digital only BC, Sony has been terrible with BC it's not the focus for them.

Rather re sell you a remake
