Not even that, The Rift S is $400.

I've heard great things about the Samsung Odyssey but have never used one. The Rift S is very solid. I have a Vive, but I haven't used the Rift S enough to really form an opinion on which is better. I wasn't a huge fan of the Rift's controllers though

VR is now worth the price if it interests you. If you aren't super interested I wouldn't bother, but if it's something you've been considering for awhile, consider buying a headset soon. There are tons of little free tech demos that are just super immersive and cool, and now there are major games like HL: Alyx, Asgard's Wrath, Stormland, and other great games. There are tons of great shorter games too

It takes a little getting used to. A good portion of people can't just jump into a heavy motion game like a first person shooter, but it gets easier over time. Just recognize when you feel like you're getting sick and stop, and continue playing when you start feeling better. Also use an FPS monitor to make sure you're hitting a constant 90fps, because if you drop lower, that could cause motion sickness. Eating ginger or taking ginger root supplements helps a lot!

Going to try that after beating this going straight to Doom vr since I had that forever.

Only thing truly stopping me is the price

Even the reported best value Rift S is 20% more expensive than my predator xb1...

Can you atleast use a rift s like a normal monitor? That would make the price more worth it to me.

Or other fun gimmicks

I played the test room demo at my friend's house last week, and the level of detail is absurd. Just the textures alone are incredible.

You mean like, using the headset to browse your desktop and stuff? You can definitely do that!

Another fun gimmick that I like showing to friends is this app called Bigscreen VR. Basically, someone hosts a room, it can be a lounge room type thing, a movie theater, and a few other scenes, and the host's desktop screen is mirrored onto a big screen in the host's virtual room, so you can invite friends/strangers to watch movies/TV shows together. It works really well and it is super fun.

There's something extra magic about playing games your familiar with in VR.

There's some dumb Halo VR tech demo thing in Windows 10 but holding these weapons I've been familiar with for years and looking up to Master Chief still felt weirdly special?

Really looking forward to returning to Half-Life in VR. Especially the oppressive atmosphere of City 17.

So i could, as a random example, boot up Black Mesa in Bigscreen VR and play that whilst letting other people watch?

I was primarily just interested in another video output (leaves a bit more headroom for where i can use my desktop as i wont need to move my 27inc monitor around)

If so, thats even more inticing.

Enough so, that im seriously starting to consider it now

It wont be this year, but 2021 maybe..

Yes. I'm pretty confident it's built into Steam VR.

I've seen a couple clips that look crazy. One of them is the player holding a stool. When a headcrab jumps at them, they catch it with the legs of the stool and throw it out of a window. The other is much more impressive. A streamer finds a window with markers and an eraser. He's able to draw a dick on the window and then use the eraser.

You could! Just keep an eye out on new releases and stuff, there is a lot of great stuff now for VR, a lot of people keep writing it off as a fad and they're just ridiculous.
