nice! I have a 5.1 inch refractor so it picks up a decent amount of light. Its manual though because Im trying to learn the sky but the digital ones that find shit automatically are cool.

few months until Jupiter and Saturn are out and about at a time Ill be awake so itll be fun to see those. Apparently with a better lens Ill be able to see cloud bands and the red spot on Jupiter.

my daughter is obsessed with planets so hopefully I get a good pic of those

You need more pixel resolution in that photo.

Did you just upload a down-sampled jpg, or is that the original?

is there some app you need to use to take nebula photos? wouldn't think a regular phone camera would be sensitive enough.

I just snapped this with my phone, did a bit of filtering to make it pop a little more, and uploaded. It was an iPhone.

huh, is it multi exposure? might explain the kind of streaked effect going on.

no Im actually in a very populated city in my backyard.

just had a nice clear night out and the moon isnt out which makes it much better. The moon kills a lot of what you can see.

yes it does have a longer exposure time. You can also do star trails with it but its a cheap app

i really need to invest in a phone mount for my scope as itll likely get rid of some noise...you have to hold it super still to get the image through the 10mm lens and the field of view is very small

I've got a shitty small one that me and my kiddo look at the moon with.

I'd like to get a bigger one eventually because she is fascinated by the stars.

I think you need to use the full Pixel Resolution of your Camera.

I know your camera is more than capable of putting out far more pixels per shot.

You have a 12 MP camera, the image that you uploaded felt WAY below 12 MP.

Almost like it was Down-Sampled.

yeah it might be because I was holding it with my hands and trying to point it through the lens in the dark...with a 10mm lens the field of view is really small and you have to have it juuuuust right to get anything.

the shakiness is no good for longer exposure times Id imagine

I took one random image, and it's 5.06 MB jpeg from a 21 MP sensor.

You have a 12 MP sensor.

Yet the image you uploaded was only 114 KB

Something is really off there.

Your average JPG file size should be at least ~2.5 - 3.x MB jpeg

Why do I have a feeling that your app isn't giving you the true image and giving you a crappy "Down-Sampled" preview image to work with

Definitely. You think you can eventually catch Andromeda? I've seen it before. It's absolutely surreal that I was looking at an image from 2.5 million years ago. When humans weren't even humans.

Ill definitely try. right now its not at the best position for me and my backyard really only has a good view south. My house blocks the north. Thatll be something I try to find when I get it to the desert
