The technical definition is a person is paid to secretly advertise, promote and defend a product right? But the usage of it is just a synonym for calling people a fanboy.

Like yeah, I'm a shill for Capcom. It's not insulting towards me. I also love busty redheads so calling me a perv isn't an insult either.
