So
Many
Plot holes

It was enjoyable, and the monster design was really cool, but there were at least 6 or 7 times where I noticed something odd or inconsistent.

Yeah, plot holes, but it was a decent action flick. Theyre making a second one.

why didnt jim throw something instead of killing himself

If I remember correctly, wasn't he mortally wounded? He probably realized there was no way he could survive the damage he had taken so he had to.

The plot hole and character stupidity throughout the entire thing basically ruined the movie for me. It has a good atmosphere, though.

He was injured, but I wouldn't say mortally. If he was they could have communicated the severity of the injury better.

I liked it a lot, I miss good fun monster flicks. Asylum movies are trash and Hollywood just wants to make zombie movies. Right up there with the tremors movies for me.

2 to the 1 from the 1 to the 3, a fitting end for a monster like me.

Why don't you tell us what those six or seven things were.

In no particular order and off the top of my head...

Why was the door to their quiet room just a mattress? How did the monster thrashing about when they first went in there not even step on it and smash through from its own weight / massive claws, but when the wife and baby were in there alone one got in?

Why did the daughter get sucked into the corn? She had a hold of the door in the first place; her sinking was both pointless and made no sense.

Speaking of the corn, why didn't they immediately sink when they had the door and the monster on top of them?

Why didn't dad take the shotgun outside with him to look for the kids?

How did the daughter magically put together that the feedback from her cochlear implant stunned the monsters? They just needed one scene with her either turning it on or off with a monster in her view to give her context to understand it, but as the movie went she had zero information to make that connection. Hell, she only two encounters with the monsters causing feedback anyway, and the first one she was completely unaware of the monster.

Why did the son panic and run off into the cornfield when his flashlight started flickering? I get the kid was panicky and anxious in general, but that was about the dumbest possible move he could have made there.

Why couldn't the monster tear through the truck like tissue paper? It had no problem with the corn silo door and wall.

Edit: another one: Why was the lid off of the baby box and the mask off of the baby? Were they that immediately confident the room would muffle any noise the baby happened to make?

Why didn't they move the mom to the waterfall to give birth since that's the only place she can scream without being heard? This movie has a bad case of the idiot ball trope.

When I started that movie I was like "OMG this is the coolest fucking idea ever" but as it kept going it kept getting dumber and dumber until that very final scene where I was just like "Seriously, that's how it ends?"

Zombie movies? You're, like, ten years late for that party.

A wanted to like A Quiet Place but it seemed clear no one involved really cared. They layed out hard and fast rules for the setting and then completely ignored them when it was relevent to the plot. Apparently these things can hear you fart from three miles away but can't hear you give birth in the next room.

it's not like the mom knew exactly when she would be giving birth, she couldn't have lived by the waterfall indefinitely.

They could have, if they... you know, set up their shelter there instead of at an exposed farm house.

Something being dumb and something being a plot hole arent the same thing.

Since when do humans consistently make good decisions under pressure?

I assume the reason they set up there was to try and have something resembling a normal life.

Instead of setting up a tent next to a waterfall.

I mean normally that would make sense, but when you're basically guaranteeing you'll be attacked by vicious alien monsters while you're trying to squirt out a baby that doesn't make sense at all.

This is how I feel about it, the last line especially lol. It kind of irks me when people do the stupidest, nonsensical shit in movies. I get that it's a plot device to move it along and that it might even be similar to how real people would react in that situation. But it's like.. god damn, there's got to be a better way.

I'll still watch the second one though, just not in theaters.

This is true when the characters are written to make bad decisions. The mistakes in characters' behavior as well as the inconsistency of the creatures' powers are all on the writers here.
