I was trying to get it outside with a cup and paper, and after chasing it for 20 mins, when I put the cup over it, I missed and ripped off 4 of it's legs. It then sprawled out in pain, and I put it out of its misery. I feel awful. I cried really hard, I just wanted to help it.

If it's worth anything, an insect average lifespan is like, days, months at worst, so you didn't significantly end its lifespan.

I found a newly hatched caterpillar back last summer and was actually able to identify it with CE's help but by the time I did, it was too far gone and refusing to eat even though I gave it a variety of valid food sources. I put it outside, hoping it might recover in the back yard but later that day, my landlord mowed the lawn so... >_<
