Current Events > My 30 year old cousin is proof anyone should be scared of this virus.

He is 30. He contracted Covid. He developed pneumonia with it. This was the last two messages from my nurse aunt who works in the hospital he is admitted to:

Setting up a family thread so I can update everyone at once. He is on oxygen now, so he can breathe a little better at least. His temp hit 103 overnight. Hopefully once the doctors do their rounds this morning I will have more information. Im working today, so will go up to his floor and check in with the nurses station, so they realize he is a staff members kid-hopefully that matters. Will update when I can.

Doctor tried to listen to his lungs but they were too packed. They gave him meds. His temp was at 102.3. Tylenol and Ice packs under his armpits to bring it down. Hes on oxygen. Feeling awful. Im going to go up to his floor before I leave today and see if I can get any more info from the nurses

Connecticut. He's being held in Danbury currently. He haven't been in contact since the outbreak. Last time I had contact with him, it was my Nephew's birthday on February 24th. I assume I am safe, despite how it was less than a month ago. (His symptoms came around the 20th)

I'm a 30 y.o plumber for a state hospital who JUST quit smoking a week ago. I'm starting to get my end of life shit in line for my kids in case I don't survive when I eventually get it. We get no ppe except gloves.

My only ray of hope is that I usually have the immune system of a plague rat and i never get sick so hopefully that helps me and my kids.

I think the larger takeaway is it can affect the vulnerable around you, and like TCs cousin, if you happen to develop something while affected by the virus, you can get fucked hard.

Not to alarm you or discourage you or anything, but it's usually smoking that keeps the immune system strong. There have been lots of reports of people getting severe colds after quitting, so good luck out there.

I think he does have something else too but like you said, I don't know. He's always been in good health around me. He's always that "joking asshole" type that the family loves. I dunno though.

I'm 28 and I've been eating awfully and have a congenital heart condition. I'm eating oats right now in attempt to bring down my too high cholesterol levels. I'm not overweight at least, but I could stand to slim down by 10-15 lbs to my ideal weight.

This whole ordeal is an eye opener of just how quickly this world turn for the worst.

Absolutely nobody healthy needs to be scared for themselves. They need to be scared of spreading it to the elderly and vulnerable.

No matter how many stories we hear like this, it doesn't change enough minds. This can absolutely ravage a healthy, young body. Even if your odds of survival are high, that doesn't mean you can't die from it. Not to mention it can alter your way of life even if you survive, the damage it can do is startling.

My bad, but the concern doesn't change. Nicotine suppresses a lot of bad stuff like fungal growth and it's unleashed when you're going through withdrawal, which takes months. Which is why I wished him good luck.
