"Amazon employees at the company's Staten Island, New York, facility plan to walk off the job Monday amid allegations the online retail giant has mishandled its response to the coronavirus pandemic. Employees are protesting Amazon's decision to keep the Staten Island warehouse open despite news of a confirmed case of the virus there last week, said Christian Smalls, an assistant manager at the facility who is leading the walkout.

Many more employees have tested positive for the virus at the facility than the company has publicly acknowledged, Smalls said, claiming that as many as five to seven workers have been diagnosed with the coronavirus."

Fuck Jeff! Close it and clean the place like everyone else is doing.

Fire them all and replace them. How ungrateful of these employees, while other employees are getting laid off.

How dare they ask for sanitary working conditions. They should be happy for the .5 AmazonbucksTM they earn per day

i really appreciate the fact that workers are finally taking it upon themselves to start collectively organizing

rather than opting to defer to a historically non-responsive government to intercede on their behalf

They are literally getting paid double overtime, so instead of $15/hr, now they're getting paid $30/hr.

Okay. That still doesnt justify the risk of getting sick and potentially dying/having permanent lung damage (some cases resolve with the patient having pneumonia afterwards)

Fuck. I hope this doesn't delay my copy of RE3Remake getting to me this Friday. If amazon workers go on strike, or are dismissed from work to collect unemployment, a lot of people aren't going to receive the products they've purchased. Either way seems like a lose / lose for the customers and especially amazon. Can't say amazon doesn't deserve this though.

People joke, but that's probably going to be a huge takeaway from this strike. People rely on amazon now more than ever, so if the choice is between killing people and doing without stuff, people will be more encouraged to pick the third option of neither and quit risking essential services due to limits of being human.

I agree that will probably be a takeaway. Despite CE's insistence to the contrary, a LOT of people are employed over robots entirely to create jobs.

That's true for a lot of people but if you look at the kinds of things workers in factories do, lots of them could be replaced by extending a conveyor belt by a couple of feet.

We're at a point where cost may be of less concern than function. Better a smaller profit margin than the complete loss of the ability to do business. Better higher prices than risk I not get what I ordered at a time I can't go out to shop in one of the few places still open.

Like other stores that have an employee who got the virus they typically shut the store down for a day or two to clean it then reopen. The workers have every right to be pissed especially if more than 1 employee got the virus and still came to work prior to knowing.

Hey, I'm a paying customer and I reasonably expect to get the product and service I'm paying for. I'm willing to make a exception when and if necessary, especially for the well being of others, but it sucks when faced with a considerable inconvenience like Covid19, causing potentially deadly illness that could lead to the complete disruption in the flow of goods.

They better get their act together. This pandemic is really showing how some companies are handling the matter. One of my grocery stores now have temporary pixie glass at the cash along with employees wearing gloves. At least some companies are doing the best they can.

Funny. I just cancelled a bit before this post. Considering Capcom cut a lot of corners with this one I decided it's best to wait for a few price drops on this one unfortunately. Sucks because I'm a huge Resident Evil fan too, but oh well.
