Thailand just started its first step of quarantines. Starting tomorrow there will be a 10pm-4am quarantine country wide. Breaking the curfew will lead to a 40,000 (about $1,350usd) fine and/or 2 years in jail. Likely will become even stricter in the next few days.

I gotta go to immigration tomorrow. My visa expires on Sunday. Apparently the Thai government is going to give a blanket amnesty for overstay and automatic extensions for anyone who entered Thailand after March 1st (technically I entered on March 6th after doing a visa run to Malaysia). If it isn't in effect by tomorrow then I have to pay to get a 30 day extension. That'll be about $60. $60 I can't afford right now (broke because we are still waiting for our refunds from canceled flights to China).

It was a theory with minimal evidence for some time, though I think there were examples of infected people without any symptoms spreading it even during the SARS outbreak.

IIRC the first covid case people used as an example was early February, the very first infection in Germany, where a Chinese lady visited her parents in Wuhan and then flew to teach people in Germany.
However, while the German victim said she was symptomless (source of theory), after traveling back to China the Chinese lady said she had very light symptoms that the German victim didn't notice.

Because of this, there were countries that rejected the incubation period infectiveness theory. However a few weeks ago Italy found evidence of symptomless covid infections in a village where the whole population was tested.

Unless everyone is tested, there's no good way to know who's infected.
The "confirmed" numbers only really show who had significant enough symptoms to bother being tested. The actual number of carriers is probably a hundred times that, likely much more.

It's not lab created because this would be a shit tier attempt at making a virus.

  • long incubation period so it can't be immediately deployed as a bioweapon against an invading army without taking weeks to spread around
  • so infectious you can't even keep it from infecting your own country
  • relatively low mortality, though severe enough that it will grind your enemy to a halt once cases reach a critical mass of requiring care unless they're herd immunity psychopaths

Actually, the first and third points would make sense for a bio weapon. Not all bio weapons need to be designed to kill in high volumes. A bio weapon can be effective if it essentially grinds an entire country to a halt, overwhelms their medical system and cripples their economy. Long incubation period with asymptomatic transmission allows the virus to spread quickly (as we are seeing right now).

I'm not saying it is an engineered virus but it definitely is possible.

Laowhy86 and his South African buddy Winston (the weird guy who has to mention that his wife is a doctor in every video) aren't really a good source information tbh. When they both lived and worked in China, they would constantly shill for China and slurped up the CCP kool-aid. Since leaving China (likely permanently now because if what they've been saying lately) they've completely changed their view points it seems.

Plus they both come off as assholes tbh.

I've been considering the possibility of it being intentional and meant to
a) "fix" the overpopulation issue by adding an element that kills a large number of people and then constantly balances it
b) eliminate the "non-useful" people who aren't doing anything for the economy or state (old people, sickly people)

But then again, it's killing young people right now and country leaders tend to be in the danger zone. Also, whenever you release the virus you affect the whole world, as it could mutate into something far worse than you expected and grow immune to your planned countermeasures.

I highly doubt it was used intentionally, if it really is a biological weapon. And if the spread started anywhere but China, you'd see the infections outside of China much earlier. Yet it started in China, only then other countries caught wind of it, only then the virus started damaging Europe and US.

Not sure why people assume it has to be a bio-weapon if it was made in a lab. Researchers at BSL-4 labs (like the one in Wuhan)are authorized to perform "gain of function" research on these viruses.

All it would take for this to have come from a lab is an accident. One lab member who didnt know they had accidentally been compromised and could have been infecting people for weeks without even knowing it.

Here is a paper published in the journal of virology from 2008 showing the lab in Wuhan had successfully tinkered with coronavirus from horseshoe bats as far back as 2008.
