I cannot for the life of me get back into it. I don't get why. I legit would much rather play II and Inquisition again over Origins.

I've started replaying Origins and omg it's soo good. I tried to start up Inquisition as well because I've never finished that one but it's just not as good.

We're opposites!

i can even see wanting to play Inquisition before it. but II? nah brah.
Yeah. I liked that for the most part, it wasn't some huge, grand conflict. You don't need to constantly go for a bigger stage and I appriciated that they dialed it back. Plus, Varric and Isabela are great.

I've contemplated playing through it again.

If you haven't tried it on PC, try it there

oh wow it exists for consoles? that's harsh
Its so inferior on consoles.

You have like 6 combat options and you have to access your potions and stuff from a radial menu.

Its functional on paper but it's so obvious the game is designed for PC

I'm in a similar boat. Got to the end boss but never beat it. Can't get back into it for the life of me.
The thing is, I want to. It's the only one I never played the DLC for and you never know what might be referenced or show up in DA4. But it's so incredibly slow. KotOR is actually the same way and I realized that I had to power through that despite me loving that.

it was kinda rough and unpolished even when it came out.
It had like a 10 year development cycle. I wouldn't call it unpolished.

I'm biased though as its one of my all time favorites.

Eh. 2 and 3 had some good dialogue too

the thing about dragon age 1 is it has good dialogue options, which 2 and 3 dont. therefore, 1 is amazing and the others are heinous filth masquerading as games. try playing your character exactly how i played mine with no variance whatsoever, then you'll have fun
Good. I don't like silent characters where you're clearly "talking". Just be voiced and thank god they went that direction.

they have like 3 choices of dialogue per convo if youre lucky, and most of them lead to the same response. also your character isnt saying or even necessarily conveying what the text seems to imply
That's kind of a half truth

You have 3 choices to end the conversation (or certain parts of it) but you can usually open up and ask more questions about stuff.

Which is the same as Origins, just differently formated.

I agree about the misleading text though.

I agree Origins is better. I just think 2 and 3 are still good. Bioware are capable of good writing

Yeah, that's even been a problem in Mass Effect. It's not nearly as bad as the memes make it out to be, but there are definitely a few times I got burned.

oh it's one of my all time favorites as well. but come on, the graphics and gameplay weren't exactly stellar for its time.
Graphics? Sure

Have Bioware ever had good graphics? Neverwinter Nights, Jade Empire, KOTOR, Mass Effect (all of them) were behind their counter parts.

Bioware skimps on graphics in favor of having larger deeper worlds and I 100% agree with that game philopshy. Same reason Deus EX and System Shock 2 are so great.

But Gameplay? Nah I disagree. I loved Origins Game play WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than 2. And it still holds up today.

Sure the Fade and Deep Roads hurt on repeat playthroughs but first time over they are great

the questions most of the time go nowhere. sometimes they open up one more string of dialogue and even more sometimes, they will open up something in the story/game for you

meanwhile you got Chad Warden with his 27 dialogue options per convo, with cunning checks, persuasion checks, intimidation checks, and ability to convey a range of emotions
not really.

As much as I like Origins there are very few cunning checks, perusaion is just a bar you fill when you level up and while it might seem like a lot if you see 7 lines of dialogue to choose from, in 2 and 3 there's still usually roughly the same amount of dialogue it's just displayed differently rather than being shown in a line

I agree with your overall point, I prefer Origins' approach. I just don't think 2 or 3 are as bad as you think they are. It's mostly just a formatting difference.

i enjoyed it too, but it was a bit clunky compared to industry standards at the time.
Maybe on console, but for the series it was a spiritual successor to? It mightve been a bit more streamlined to appeal to a wider audience but it's way more than functional

It'd just too much to commit to. I loved it and beat the game with each origin. But then when I tried to pick it up a few years later something about committing another 60 hours to a proper play through kept pushing me away.

Yeah I have this problem with RPGs.

I still haven't played FFXV

And I've had some RPGs on the shelf since the 2000s which are like "Great rich worlds with 100+ hours of gameplay!"

and I'm just like "Erm.... ok....." and never start them lol

Same here. It makes me kinda sad, my dragon age origins, baldurs gate 2 and persona 4 are some of my favorite games ever and I just can't imagine ever playing them again. Not to mention all the games I haven't played and would ideally like to try

It's not. Imagination doesn't excuse silent protagonists. Emotional moments are completely ruined when someone is pouring their heart out to you and you're just standing there like a mannequin even though you're technically talking to them. Trespasser in Inquisition, the ending if you played a certain way would be nowhere near as fucking fantastic as it was if the Inquisitor was silent.
