I was working only 2 days a week and I told my boss to take me off the schedule. Does this mean I won't get my unemployment?

honestly a part time job where you work 2 days a week wouldn't get you much anyways.

Yes. You dont get unemployment for quitting.

I didn't quit. I was just taken off the schedule. But I'm assuming that's what its like?

its not a part time job. That's because of the pandemic. They were putting me 2 days because they were putting one server per shift instead of the usual 2-3.

If you're not working because you asked to reduce your hours to zero, how is that any different from quitting?

A lot of people itt don't understand the difference between quitting and being temporarily removed from the schedule.

You gotta be on the job 90 days to qualify for unemployment.

If you get laid off or get fired after that is irrelevant....you qualify for temporary severance pay.

How stupid you must sound. Quitting would mean I was taken out of the system and wouldn't be put back on the schedule but I can call them and tell them to cancel it and put me back on.

Anyway, I did just that. My anxiety about this virus isn't as bad as no money for bills.

the state will look into your payroll history and they could contact your employer finding out why you dont show any earned income.

then they can say you requested to be taken off payroll which would be denying work. Which would either not get you unemployment or a severely diminished amount of unemployment.

either way, when you voluntarily refuse work it will hurt you when it comes to your claim.

and your company pays into unemployment so dont be surprised if they dont lie to your benefit. They probably wont want to pay for someone who voluntarily chooses to not work.

Thanks for this. Either way, before I read this, my anxiety was causing me to return. I asked to be put back on.

I have anxiety about this whole thing but I'm more worried that I'll run out of the money i saved...I just feel like its pointless to go in to a job that's not making me any money but I've never been on unemployment so I wasn't aware of this fact at all. Appreciate it though.

Yeah, I wasn't aware of how unemployment works. I was stupid x.x

Doesn't matter anyway because Unemployment services are a joke right now. In Illinois I received my certification letter a week late and I can't even call them because I either get a dial tone or a generic high traffic voice mail and they hang up. Now I have to do the process all over again and hope they send my damn letter in the snail mail on time. It already took way longer than usual just to get a phone call from them. This sucks all around.

That's strange because I sent my certification 2 weeks ago and got my unemployment check in my bank account the next day.

Problem is, this week might be iffy if he can't find me a place on the schedule and I might ask a coworker to give me one of their days just to keep myself on the schedule for this week.

If you aren't getting a certain amount of days and / or hours at work you can still file for and collect unemployment TC as long as you also aren't reaching a certain threshold.

See, I was getting unemployment while I was working so I worked 14 hours a week and was only making 60 dollars on my paycheck...which as you can probably guess, isn't enough, at all.

I felt that it was pointless to go in, especially if unemployment could work but I wasn't thinking and then found out from another that they weren't getting unemployment for 3 weeks even though they were laid off...and that's why I came here because I felt like people here would know more than me and you were right...I'm just going to stick to working even just to get this measly check because one day I'll run out of money...and I don't want that.

But as @kaliskonig said, it's an absolute fucking shit fest now in NY and most states. Not everybody, but many have to call in to complete the claim and there's articles talking about it being a full time fucking job to even reach the damn menu. People using redialers to call thousands of times all day, all fucking week.

That stimulus check will cover me for a moment but only for a moment. The future is still uncertain though. I have money put up to help me but it can only last so long. Then what's going to happen? All that money I saved up? Its going to be gone and I'll be up shit creek. Even if I stayed at my job and got partial unemployment, all it will do is slow it down because a hundred dollars unemployment a week with a 60 dollar paycheck won't do anything.

I was denied unemployment because this is the first job I've worked at in a while and I've only been here about 6-7 months.
Boss was adamant I'd qualify after they cut my hours.

If these payouts don't come soon it's gonna get real ugly out there I'm afraid.

People may just start looting and that's a point of no return for this country because I can't see the military being willing to kill Americans to quell the chaos and uphold the rule of law

The police will automatically be outnumbered against those looting and they're running for the hills in this scenario and leaving it up to the national guard.
