I also love the simplicity of X-2, with only 3 characters (even though the actual battle system was incredibly complex.) Ashe is probably the closest thing to a legit main character which would make her Luke. Since Basch is imprisoned at the start for rebelling against the empire that would make him Leia. Even in VI his status as a captive is very minor and temporary. Basch being captured and in the empires prison is a massive plot point.
