Even to this day people are bitter against Fusion because it went a literal linear route where as Super Metroid had more of a free roam feeling to it.

But honestly, that's looking at Fusion with a very narrow short sight. Fusion had added tons of stuff and amplified the themes behind the franchise but fans would not allow themselves be invested to Fusion because it departed away from the free roam gameplay and the addition of Adam giving you goal objectives somehow made it worst for SM fans. Pessimism and blind loyalty is a disease.

Well Super was kind of a masterpiece. Even somebody like me who gets lost and frustrated easily was able to complete it without issue.

But I agree, Fusion is also a great game that more people should have given a chance. It was very different from 3 but still very good in its own way.

I love them both for different reasons. I was 8 when I first played Super Metroid and I found it to be overwhelming but not too difficult. I played that game daily for months before I finished it and was never bored. The exploration, secrets, and tricks made it pretty incredible. I found out about the infinite bomb jump on my own and remember wondering if I was the only person who knew about it. There's a lot about it that blew my kid mind to pieces and I still enjoy it.

Fusion, while more limited in exploration, offered thrills, frustration, and a far more enthralling story. I was 14 when I first played it and burned through it pretty fast, if you don't count a couple of rage quits during which I didn't pick up the GBA SP for a couple of weeks. It was, for me, a totally unique gaming experience that still sticks with me all this later.

It's what you said. Though similar and from the very same series, these two games give two different experience.

Although both are good games, i ultimately feel like Fusion has more going for it than Super.

I agree with this. Fusion amplified all the themes the series were already using such as isolation, fear, horror, tension, mystery and the new feeling of being weak/vulnerable.

People like both. But Fusion is just not very replayable precisely because of the linearity.

In Super Metroid thanks to sequence break, free roaming and advanced techniques you can beat any of the bosses in any order, changing the experience each time you play it, while Fusion is a one time thing.

It amplified the theme of isolation by giving you an AI friend that constantly talks to you?

Super Metroids wall jumping alone makes it a low tier Metroid game for me.

The theme is still heavy and powerful even with Adam aiding you.

Super is the epitome of the Metroidvania genre while Fusion is much more linear. Super throws you into the game and you have to travel around and figure out where to go, collecting powerups that let you unlock different parts of the world. Fusion has an NPC tell you that X is happening in Sector 3, so you have to go to Sector 3.

More than Super where you are literally isolated?

If they removed talking to adam completely, it would help fusion a lot.

In Super Metroid thanks to sequence break
Sequence breaking in SM is highly overrated. Yes, it's there and yes it provides replayability but people act like it was genius thing that way ahead of its time. I'm pretty sure the devs wasn't tryna make it possible for you to beat the game backwards when giving you sequence breaks in SM.
