I'm just pulling this out of my ass but I think if someone hasn't played either games they pick whatever franchise they like or familiar with, and a lot of people grew up with nintendo games so they choose them when they can't pick.

Basically. Thats the problem with sites that are mainly to one side or the other. At least PlayStation somewhat stands a chance. I think I ended up picking GTAV and Zelda or Skyrim for the final.

That doesn't disprove a Nintendo bias. The website nintendolife runs articles for non-Nintendo systems and games on non-Nintendo systems, yet that is still a Nintendo-focused website.

Pretty much. I just never bother voting in these things because so often it's between either two games I haven't played or a game I have and a game I haven't, and I don't like making quality assessments of games I haven't played.

FF7 is an exception. No one attempts to dispute it. What I don't get is how you think it somehow counters the correct title of "nintenfaqs".

The one thing I never understood was the Smash obsession, it's just a fighting game, or is that a bad Zelda game it's beating?

Well, it does counter the Nintendo wins everything because it proves that Nintendo doesnt win everything. And anytime anything does beat Nintendo, its always because its an exception.

As for Smash, people like fighting games, especial my if theyre able to use their favorite video game character. I like it, but do think the obsession runs a little high sometimes. But people are going to like what theyre going to like...

This site is biased towards Nintendo in the same way art connoisseurs are biased towards the Renaissance.

By that I mean, the word bias is dumb and inaccurate when used to describe a general preference for good things. Thats just called good judgement.

And to that point, I think this site is very fair to Sony and to any game that is respectful to the industry.

Also worth noting that this sites demographic is getting older, and young folks use the Internet in different ways than they did 10+ years ago. Im happy were comprised of real gamers in that sense; I tend to think our collective judgements are pretty good and that they benefit from that fact.

It's the first round of a weighted tournament, all the heavy hitters are going against chumps. Singling out Nintendo is dumb when games like Dark Souls, RDR2, and Last of Us have some of the highest vote counts of the whole contest.

Nintendo has only won three GotY contests in the last decade, two of those being Smash Bros which this site is fucking nuts for and the other was Zelda Breath of the Wild which you can't in good faith argue wasn't deserved. Series like Mario, Pokemon, and Fire Emblem have lost to series like Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, and Resident Evil.

But Nintendo always wins right?

To be fair, almost all the games Nintendo ones had to compete with were utter lightweights that likely would only stand a chance against other lightweights.

The lone exception would be AC: New Leaf over SF V, but the new Animal Crossing is definitely giving the entire series a boost. In the inverse, I'm surprised FE: Awakenin lost to Bloodborne.

Doesn't have the same cultural influence as Skyrim had. BotW is my second place game of the decade, and finally dethroned Ocarina of Time as my favourite Zelda, but it doesn't touch Skyrim.

I don't know if that quite counts if much of the cultural influence came from memes and making fun of it. And if we're speaking culturally in pure gaming circle sense, I'd argue any of the Fallouts have achieved a stronger lasting impact (which might not be exactly fair, seeing as there have been way more of those released).

So, I'll just stick to quality. And BotW is damn near flawless.

Yeah have to agree.

I don't even mind durability in games, provided it's done right. However, that does seem to be an easy thing to screw up. BotW ended up making me feel like I had to keep a bunch of junk, when I didn't I ended up having a really bad time of things! The balance is all whack regarding this mechanic imo.

The rule of thumb for GameFaqs is:
East>West
Console>PC
Nintendo>all

In that order. The first 2 are waaaay more influential than "NintendoFAQS" ever has been. Which is why Minecraft getting bodied isn't that surprising, and why "influence" is only so much.
