The first time I played the game I didn't know jack shit so I chose Breton and tried to be a mage. Bored with quarantine and thought I'd pick it back up so what should I do?

I've never done that before. Should I go for it? I like combat though and I've never been good with bows in video games.

I got sick of stealth archery as a kajiit and playing a mage is useless.

It's because Stealth in Bethesda games is inherently broken - when you have it maxed out, you're basically invisible to enemies. And it gives you a damage perk to hit an unaware enemy from stealth. AND there are perks in Skyrim to further enhance those damage boosts. So yeah, Stealth Archer is broken air force.

Magic isn't useless in Skyrim, Destruction magic is. There are plenty of useful things to do with magic that work just fine. Like turning invisible and shooting enemies with a bow.

First, mods.

If you don't want to bother, 2-handed and warhammer is great in base game.

Just quick swap between that and a healing spell and you are good to go.

If you're on PC or the new consoles a magic mod would really make magic useful. The biggest problem is that magic doesn't scale in damage with your skill so at end game a fireball doing 40 points of damage just makes it cost less, not do more damage.

A good character for vanilla would be either two handed melee or one handed melee with a bow.
Try not go stealth though, it's not just OP it completely breaks the game.

Ahhh so thats why. Never understood the meme or knew that it was that good. I want to have a challenge so probably wont do that then.

Punch cat is a Khajiit that fights unarmed. Khajiits race ability gives it +12 unarmed damage and beast races also have 10 base unarmed so Khajiits do 22 damage without a weapon. Heavy armor also has a perk that adds the base damage of heavy gloves to unarmed damage and you can get a enchantment to boost unarmed damage in Riften. Over all it's not very strong, but as long as you stay at a low level and on adept it's fun to play.

Ohh I had no idea that would be a legit strategy. That sounds pretty cool. If I can customize the cat to look like a bad ass I'm doing that.

Idk about which character you should use but if you wanna have no shout cooldown here ya go, I personally think it makes being a mage a bit more fun.

Spoilers for main quest tho sort of, I don't think it'd ruin anything tho.
When you learn the fire shout from parthanax and he tells you to test it on him, don't.
That quest pauses the timer on shouts incase you shout at the sky or something I guess. So just leave and have fun whirlwind sprinting past enemies, setting them on fire, and ofcourse throwing them off cliffs to your hearts content. Obviously you can't finish the main quest like this but who does the main quest anyway? Lol

Also pick up a telekinesis spellbook and play cabbage bowling with wine bottles or try trick shotting cabbages into buckets.
