Smithers was never intended to be black, he only was in his first appearance because Klasky-Csupo sucks at following basic instructions

I have the season 1 commentary. They used to send their animation to South Korea or something back in those days, and Smithers was always meant to be the same "yellow" color as most of the cast. So, the next time you saw him, it appeared as if they changed him from Black to "yellow."
