No, it's a terrible idea to reopen (especially for states like SC that just recently closed). To safely reopen we need the capability to test everyone with symptoms, get the results back very quickly (within a day or so), and track down the contacts of positive cases to have them isolate. We don't have that capability anywhere right now, and because Trump is passing the buck states are going to have to figure it out themselves (probably led by CA/NY). I'd be very surprised if any states were able to safely open up before mid May, and even that's optimistic (and it would certainly not be all of them).

Nobody knows if it is a good idea or not until it is done and it can be compared to those who shut down and those who didn't decades from now with full data sets.

It is likely not the best idea unless it can be coupled with fundamental differences in how people operate day to day.

@StartTheMachine

I just turned 32 a week ago. I'm in pretty good shape/health but I am prone to throat infections for whatever reason. I have had strep enough times that I probably should have gotten a tonsilectomy at some point as a preventative measure.

My experience with the sore throat was similar to yours though. I've had strep so many times that I can usually tell when it's coming, and with COVID I felt like I hit step 1 ten times in a week. I would all of a sudden have a mildly sore throat, then it would disappear after a few hours, then come back 12-24 hours later. It never progressed past mild discomfort though. I'm not sure if that is typical of COVID but it's worth noting that I had a similar disappearing/reappearing sore throat I guess. It's probably just irritation from particularly bad bouts of coughing and I never noticed the correlation.

And yeah, I've had quite a bit of caffeine in quarantine. Partly because I've read it can help with headaches without resorting to polluting your body with a ton of painkillers, and partly because I simply like coffee/tea. I'm not sure if I'm addicted to caffeine but I drink multiple cups of coffee per day. I've been trying to drink a ton of water as well though.

This has less to do with any action and more to do with far right groups spending significant amounts of money to encourage people to protest.

@SavageInTheBox

Your sore throat experience matches mine to a T. On top of everything I mentioned earlier, it also never progressed beyond a mild nuisance. And I didn't really have any cough or cold whatsoever to go with it, which also never happens. The fact that there was no cough made me think covid was very unlikely at the time, but I couldn't get over the bizarre on and off nature of the whole thing.

I started developing a cough a tiny bit earlier today but it's hardly been noticeable, and at least right now I don't have a fever. Been feeling better most of today but still having uncomfortable chest pressure. I also ended up having about half of an energy drink earlier and it pretty much had no effect. So maybe the caffeine I drank at work before almost passing out really didn't have anything to do with it. I supplemented the energy drink with water as well and have been drinking water nonstop. I basically do that anyway so it's not much of a nuisance for me.

It's right around now that the chest pains get bad every night so we'll see if that continues to be the case.

Wait I'm confused. Is the sore throat the first symptom, and then you have two weeks of that until terrible virus time? Or is it two weeks of "nothing" and then terrible virus time.

I guess I'm asking do I need to wait four weeks to see if I have any real symptoms?

I had nothing but a cough and occasional sore throat for two weeks before I started getting debilitating body and headaches. I had occasional shortness of breath during those two weeks but it was exertion triggered...like I live in a 4th floor walkup and would be winded by the time I reached my door. I never got it from just sitting around.

Like I said though, of all the people I know that have had it, I don't know anybody who had the exact same symptoms. There are 8-10 and everybody seems to have a random selection of three or four of them. One guy I know got tested because his wife had it and tested positive and the only symptom he had was losing his sense of taste.

My symptoms were bizarre and never consistent. At some point or another I had dry cough, diarrhea, sore throat, headaches, body aches. I vomited a bit too but that was more from the pain of the headaches I think.

Forgive me for what might be a stupid question, but how are antibody tests going to work logistically unless there's enough for everyone? Say I take one and it shows that I am recovered now, but previously had COVID-19. That's great, but for all I know I was contagious up until last week, so I would have to tell my landlords, who I live above, and they would need to get tested too, since they could be weeks away from developing serious symptoms. And then if they get the same result, they would have to reach out to anyone they might have been in contact with. If I worked at an essential business, even in a very limited fashion, over the last several weeks, then everyone there would have to get tested as well, and so on and so forth. I just don't see any way that this doesn't end up spilling over capacity.

depends on how much you want to lose.
if you invest right now, expect short term losses for the potential of eventually making money.
if you invest later, expect a smarter use of money but you're paying attention to markets and movements.

there's no guarantee as to where the bottom is so it's back to the usual adage: only invest as much as you're willing to lose. if places do start opening up at the end of this month/start of next month, oil consumption will go up extremely fast and thus, prices will go up. if places don't/people don't go to work, it won't, so prices will still be shit.
