So all the imperials serve Palpatine because they think he can bring peace to the galaxy. The rebels also want peace. The obvious issue is that Palpatine is Sith and an evil guy. But what if he were a Jedi and a good guy? Would that affect the plot?

I'm not sure I get what you mean.

If Palpatine had been a member of the Jedi Council in the prequels and the plot had otherwise progressed the same way, I don't think it would have made a meaningful impact on the plot if that's what you mean.

I'm thinking that if he were a good guy, he would not be secretly starting wars and spreading discord in order to necessitate a leader such as himself.

If this were the case, I do not think there would be a plot at all.

Actually, depending on how you look at it, the Jedi were kinda evil, and the sith didn't HAVE to be evil.

The jedi were supposed to have no close attachments, and they tried to control everything. In some cases this worked out, but it could be stifling, and if you wanted actual freedom to make your own choices, the sith might have actually been a better deal.

The general problem is the sith are just plain out portrayed as evil, and the emotions they use, all lead to "the dark side" which for some reason is basically liking to torture people for fun.

There is no real reason this should be the case, and in the actual books (Before they were made non-canon) there were neutral force users, along with people like Luke and Mara who went to the dark side and came back etc.

To me, personally, if you include the books BOTH the "Jedi" and the "Sith" were two extreme polar opposites and neither were healthy or good for the universe as a whole. The sith ended up being an extreme of chaos and disorder along with for some crazy reason rage and destructive tendencies, while the Jedi were focused on LAW to an extreme, curtailed emotions and relationships and forced their rules on everyone.

Both should be wiped out completely, and the force should be allowed to shape individuals however they are meant to be, not constrained by the rules and regulations of others.

@wolfy42 ok question. You know how the younglings were gathered in the movies into a basically jedi ran preschool. Did the sith do this at all? I mean I know in the clonewars they said ventris (sorry bald two lightsaber chick) say she was taken in at a young age and the temple displayed in rebels made it clear one master one pupil. I mean it seems like the jedi tried to gather children they could indoctrinate instead of a near tween anakin who the council wanted to shove away.

So was sith a more all are welcome versus the jedi you got to be "born" into the club? Just seems jedi were causing distrust and resentments from the galaxy at large.

The sith, sadly were usually about domination and using aprentices. They also pitted the trainees against each other (if you play the KOTOR mmo you'll see that alot on the sith/dark side story lines).

That being said not EVERY dark side jedi in that MMO is a complete tool, there is some wiggle room. You could say the same about the light side jedi as well, some had a sense of humor etc.

We tend to see extremes in the movies, but in the actual books/games etc, there are people from both side who are more normal or sane.

Could even be said that Yoda and perhaps Obi wan were both semi-sane jedi for instance.

I like the Thrawn books myself and really wish they had been made into movies. It does a MUCH better job of breaking down the force and how peoples personalities affect them more then just a "dark side" or a "Light side".

I really need to read them again, but I don't have my books anymore, I would need to get them in digital format, which I probably will do eventually.
