Who the heck buys these things, at sale prices, let alone full price?

I saw an add for omaha steaks and decided to click on it, since another similar place in WA recently had an add on facebook which I checked out.

That place was crazy enough, with an average of $15 a pound (but only a few were ribeyes, the rest were lesser steaks). I did realize they were grass fed etc, so that at least explained some of the cost.

But Jesus, Omaha steaks put that to shame. I clicked on their ribeye option for 10 14 ounce ribeyes, and the freaking price was $499.....on sale 33% off!!!

Who the freaking heck is going to pay that much for ribeye steaks?, that is basically $50 a steak (and you probably pay taxes as well).

I generally buy my steaks at safeway and get whatever is 5.99 or 6.99 a pound each week. If they have a 20% off the entire order (or $10 off an order of 50$ or more etc) I'll stock up and freeze some as well.

Now they are not grass fed, and the normal price (which I never pay is more like $11, but safeway basically rotates between Tbone, Ribeye and NY Strip (I never get the NY strips). Tbone is basically half filet mignon and half NY strip (not exaatly but very similar) so it's a WAY better deal to just stock up on Tbones (I usually cut out the Filet portions and cook them fresh, and freeze the NY strip portions for later).

People have to be buying this stuff though, or they would change the price or just go out of buisiness. So...do you buy from them, and if so why? I get grass fed is better for the poor cows of course (and supposedly tastes better, but I gotta say a good 5.99 ribeye from safeway (or 8.99 for the boneless which has a bigger outside part which is my favorite) is seriously good and I don't need my steak to taste better than that.

But yeah, I just don't get it, I don't care how much money you have, who would throw away $500 to get 10 steaks?

Living in Texas, which is a beef state, 15 a pound is pretty cheap for beef.

If you are looking at mail order steaks I would go with Lobel's. The few times I mail ordered steaks, I went there. But truth be told, your local whole animal butcher who gets prime will always be the best option.
