42% believe the mainstream media all the democrats gotta do is import enough ppl to rig the votes in their favor and this pedo could potentially get in office through super pacs, and donations.

I really wish there was a female version of "guy" that wasn't "girl," due to the potential juvenile connotations of it. "Gal" is very regional and falling out of fashion, so it's really not a viable option, but that's about the closest I can think of.

Tbf I think people need to 'know their audience' and not make assumptions a woman is going to be okay with it.

I know around here most young women prefer girl to woman, they act like you're calling them old or something if you use the word woman. They also laugh and start acting crude if you call them ladies.

I wouldn't say it's a negative tone, but "woman" always feels awkwardly formal to me ("lady," on the other hand, is definitely negative in many cases). Same with "man," used in the same sort of context. For dudely types, I generally prefer to use "guy," but using "girl" for women also carries the potential interpretation of immaturity (much like "boy"), which I'm not a fan of. It's the best colloquial language has got at the moment, but there really could stand to be a better casual term.
