Wuhans prevention and control taskforce has revised the citys death toll upwards by 50% from 2,579 to 3,869. The updated figure comes after weeks of scepticism about the reported toll. Meanwhile in the last few hours the business world has begun absorbing the news that the Chinese economy shrank 6.8% in the first three months of 2020. The first such contraction on record for China comes after months of paralysis from the coronavirus lockdown. Reports of China purchasing a massive number of funeral urns and 200,000 body bags from Taiwan imply the death toll is WAY higher than being reported. Take those reports with a grain of salt, however, because they originated from asian news outlets that are anti-CCP.

China was obviously lying, but most countries will end up doing this to some extent. In NY, the rate of deaths not labeled COVID-19 has risen 6x since the outbreak. In America, deaths attributed to pneumonia have risen. There's no way to test all the bodies, so many are slipping through the cracks.

I admit I do not live or work in Wuhan or adjacent areas, so like everyone else here I do not know what the number of infected and deceased actually is.
I also admit I feel confident in saying that Chinas lack of transparency, their national censorship efforts and prioritization of saving face at all costs is entirely suspect. If we later find out there are tens of thousands of missing Chinese citizens, Id be sad for them but wouldnt be remotely surprised. --- ... ... Copied to Clipboard!

Who the fuck knows what they're even doing. They could be genociding the Uyghurs, any political dissidents, other religious groups, or anyone else they don't like and just using this situation as a convenient excuse.
