How'd it get there? Was it trash? Did it get squashed when the trash got compacted? Why was there seemingly an underwater channel that the monster could swim in, but that never got plugged up by all the trash? Why was there even a trash chute behind that panel Leia blasted? Do you have to blast it every time you want to throw something away? Is any of this answered in the novelization?

Also Obi-Wan literally does a 360 spin for no fucking reason in a duel, so I never wanna hear shit about the prequels having too many flips or whatever.

It either took care of the biological waste or it was a flushed down alligator.
Leia had been aboard enough ships to see the difference between a normal panel and a panel with a warning about how there is a trash chute behind the panel. It was a pipe to a garbage hole on a higher level.

This.

It's not outrageous to believe that space ships and stations become infested with creatures over time. Probably started out small then grew over time.

Why didn't it get squished tho when the trash compactor turned on? And if your answer is "it swam into that underwater channel also mentioned in the OP" then why the fuck is there an underwater channel?

Okay.

I still have a tough time wrapping my head around "From a Certain Point of View".

Is it canon? Is it just a bunch of fun what ifs?

Or is it a social experiment into the lengths the Star Wars fanbase can go? One of the greatest things about Star Wars is that, for all the myriad of things across the franchise that don't make sense or boggle the mind, you can either come up with a technobabble way of explaining it or attribute it to the mysterious workings of the Force.

Is FaCPoV just trying to push those boundaries as far as they'll go?

You've got the Whills in that book. You've got a pair of very different Tusken Raiders in two separate stories. You've got Omi the Dianoga. You've got literal "Fake Wedge" actually being a character.

I feel I need to go through that again because as much as it kinda turned me off as I was going through it, there's a remarkable self-awareness to the collection.

And all the contradictions are officially "intentional, and part of the project's nature" according Matt Martin of Lucasfilm Story Group.

While physically hermaphroditic, dianoga could choose to identify as female, diangous (the most common gender), or male. The matingprocess involved partners exchanging eggs with one another.[1]

It warms the cockles of my heart that somewhere, sometime, someone decided they would make identity politics for tentacled horrors that live in refuse and sewage canon.

I always assumed it was a creature the Empire used to monitor the contents of the compactor. You're supposed to double-check a trash compactor before you turn it on in case someone is inside. And evidently, trash could be packed way higher than the door in that one.

Not to mention, they turn the compactor on immediately after it discovers them. Maybe since the Death Star crew realized these were the trespassers, they figured it was an easy way to get rid of them.

Maybe it has a hatch that opens that it swims through that closes after it.

It's a commonly held misconception that the Death Star was a weapon of mass destruction, intent on cementing the Emperor's hold on the galaxy through a doctrine of fear. This is untrue. The Death Star was in fact the galaxy's most secure prison, built for it's single inhabitant; The Trash Compactor Monster. The station carried a planet destroying laser as a means of stopping the creature, should it escape and hide on nearby worlds.

The laser would of course not harm the creature, but leave it floating through space, and easy to recapture, should it ever escape. Alderaan was a false flag operation in this regard. It was never the hub of the Rebellion's efforts, but some random planet the creature escaped to briefly before it was recaptured. "Princess Leia" was a paid actress participating in the cover-up.

After the destruction of the Death Star, The Trash Compactor Monster was caught in Yavin's gravitational pull, and is now trapped within the gas giant.
