And heres a doctor talking about this in more detail:

NYC doctor says high ventilator settings damage coronavirus patients lungs

Weird stuff, 80% seems like an awfully high death rate

I mean, if what that doctor is saying is true, we may end up saving even more lives if we just changed ventilator settings, but who knows

I guess, but they got specialists that have been managing it. You'd think any issues would have been tinkered out

There's also a study from China saying the issue looks to be due to the red blood cells not being able to carry oxygen, and that a ventilator isn't the right treatment for it. We really don't know anything for sure though.

This is ultimately the scariest part of the pandemic, it's a new virus that we don't know how to treat. All we really know is how to treat the symptoms, and there is a very good chance that 6 months from now we will probably find out that some of what we did to treat patients was ultimately the wrong things to do. That's another reason we need to flatten the curve, even if half the population gets this and that's not preventable, getting it 6 months from now you could be a lot better off since we will have far more knowledge on what this is and what treatments do and don't work. We're basically flying blind and hoping the stuff we do know based on other viruses is the same here, and we won't know until they fail.
