I like how they handled it in New Leaf. I learned more about classic artwork while figuring out the difference between forgeries.

I appreciated that New Leaf added the ability for your animals to sell you art too (could still be fake IIRC), so it wouldn't take quite so long to fill the museum. Hopefully it can be the same here.

Didn't help with the sculptures though. In my game, it took nearly two years for Redd to bring the legit version of the Egyptian bust.

How do people get so many options to improve their islands when the shop only sells like 4 things a day and the Nook Shopping never seems to change items.

I know there's a store upgrade eventually but does that really make a huge difference? Time travelers obviously have more options available but what exactly do they do? Do they just keep going into the shop 1 day at a time or something?

I know this is a slow game but I find myself just checking shops and turnip prices every day and literally not doing anything else at this point. What am I missing here?

Visiting other islands and buying stuff from their shops, shaking non-fruit trees gets you two pieces of furniture a day too, getting crafting recipes from villagers and bottles as well as popping balloons, gifting stuff to your villagers. There's a few ways to increase your catalogues other than cheating, although most of the really nice looking towns on Twitter probably have.

Yeah online socializing is a big part of expanding your catalog quickly, as well as checking your animals throughout the day to get their DIYs (you can get 3 a day, but they can be duplicates). Another thing is going on a bunch of mystery tours. Each island can possibly have a piece of furniture in a non-fruit tree (not all islands will have the right trees), and a chance at a DIY in a bottle.

They have preferences but I don't think anyone has compiled what they are in this game. I used New Leaf's for hers and got her a Skull Tee

They can. Giving a gift to someone else's birthday animal will still count towards getting the stamps.

I decided that something with effort would be well-liked. So I made a DIY with uncommon ingredients that could be customized.

And it does seem there is SOME friendship levels because I got a "Best Friends" stamp for giving her the gift.

Also having visitors water flowers on top of your own watering increases their chance of reproducing, up to a maximum of 5 visitors which gives a *double sparkle* effect

Flowers have had genes since New Leaf. Getting the blue rose and purple pansy is done largely the same way in NH as it was in NL. I just never saw any of the in-depth genetic guides for it back then, just a vague "breed reds from oranges and purples!"

Landscaping is tough work!

16x16 tiles * 6x7 acres!... then subtract however much ocean water tiles (since island water tiles are changeable)

my mapped out blank island has 3118 water tiles (not counting wharf tiles, some which are usuable some art)

so 10,722 - 3118 = 7634 usuable tiles

.... though there's also edges between grass & beach that aren't useable so... my island has 252 of those...

subtracting dock, port, resident services....10,722 - 3540 = 7182 usable tiles, again mixing useable and unusable wharf tiles as usuable, and not counting all buildings you can selectively place around the island

as far as specifically the grass region, port dock to the back of the island is 72 tiles, and 86 between the earliest edge tiles of each side

Yeah honesty I hate more than two or three houses together, its like taking this beautiful island and turning it into the suburbs, feels so wrong.

I like the idea of neighbourhoods. It gives the place a nice community aspect.

aww I like it, I set up a nice residential street with seven of my animals houses next to each other

the first two animals still live on the main island with the plaza

and then Cube has his own private area because I ran out of room for my street

After all the other games where players are forced to accept villager houses sprinkled randomly anywhere, I can understand the appeal of wanting them all neat and tidy for a change.

I personally dislike the idea of having all the houses together but it's great that we have this level of control over the island so someone can do it if they want.
