im fine with ground meat but ugh ORTEGA taco seasoning

any way to actually spruce this up?

First, ground meat is meh and it's not much cheaper then good meat.

I suggest either:

Skirt steak/flat iron steak/flank steak or Rib eye steaks.

Flank/ribeye are probably the best though.

If it's ribeye, take the outside of the ribeye (the part outside of the fat surrounding the center), and cook that seperate, eat it up, yum!! It's so freaking good, it's crazy to dilute it with taco ness.

The middle part though works great, bbq it and cut it up for yum tacos.

Next "bonus" is grilled onions, adds alot to the tacos, I recommend bell peppers as well (you can get em both ready in the same pan). It's delicious. A good salsa is key as well, then lettuce and tomatos (and for many cheese, but not me), and you have a mouth watering taco.

The meat though IS the key, a good taco needs good meat. It doesn't have to be beef though, Chicken tacos (I use thigh meat) are great as well (def wanna bbq the chicken though, you want the char chicken flavor), and fish tacos are great as well.

I heart tacos.

The BEST ever meat used to be a flank style kind of steak at safeway, but it was a special way they cut it, into a long strip about 4-5 inches wide) that was amazing. It was so good but it hasn't been available for years. I have NEVER been able to find a cut like that since....but it was freaking insanely good for tacos. I miss them so much.

I use cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander seed, garlic, onion, cayenne, red pepper flakes, dried or fresh cilantro, black pepper and salt. I hate those packets.

I usually just use the one that comes up on all recipes. Also if you have beef broth use that instead of water when mixing it in.

I say if you want spice take your favorite pepper dice or slice use seeds and all. Roast in oil until the wax skin pulls off. Take the peppers and seeds out use for pico. Cook you meat (I use tofo or shrimp) cook the proteins in you oil mix and just enjoy a simple flavor. I would say eat a plain one first then adjust to cumin and other spice preference

Trust me I love rib eye steaks man.

But seriously good flank steak is 6.99 a pound at most stores near me.

Ribeyes go on sale for 5.99 all the time.

My FAVORITE pprt of the ribeye is the outside part, god damn it's yummy. I seriously love it.

So the middle part is still seriously good, but, it's not as good as the outside, which I love.

So.....pay less, get the ribeye steaks, cut off the outside and bbq them seperate, have it for a meal.

Then use the middle portions for tacos, almost as good as flank steak for tacos, cheaper AND you get the
outside meal which is divine (way better in my opinion than filet mignon, but I like ribeyes better normally anyway.

It's sad, but alot of places actually charge like $10 a pound for flank steak, tis rediculous. It's double the price
of ribeyes.
