Having health care deeply tied with employment is literally one of the major crises with the crisis. We could get to levels where almost half of the country doesn't have healthcare because of this worthless system.

Also this, but that's kind of a secondary problem. Its really just making a not-good healthcare system worse.

Heres what Id recommend as an alternative. It aint the free market dream the pro-capitalist conservative crowd may want, but it is also not the socialist universal healthcare that the justice crowd wants either. Keep the current system, but make the following changes:

* Remove quotas/barriers on imported medicine and allow Americans the choice to import from wherever they want to.
* Make it as easy as possible for qualified workers from around the world in the medical field to be allowed to work in the United States.
* Make it easier to open up new hospitals by removing existing regulatory burden.
* Remove tariffs on medical supplies.
* Remove/reduce existing patent protection on medicine.
* Vouchers for lower income families that cannot afford health insurance.
Good post. And...

*shrugs*

Get a job and have your employer pay an insurance company to mismanage their payment of it, or pass the universal thing and pay the government to mismanage your payment of it.

The shit insurance offered by most employers are anything but affordable or decent. Most of those fat lazy bastards have had the same do nothing jobs for decades. They need to go out and work an "entry" or "mid level" job for a month and then talk to me about that healthcare and lack of sick time.

I mean, its obvious that in order to implement the sort of testing and tracing theyd like to reliably reopen the economy and isolate outbreaks, you need free healthcare and other worker protections so people can go to the doctor and be safe to stay home from work.
