I hate breakable weapons and crafting, which I know the game has both. I've been avoiding it, but people keep talking about how good it is, which is making me want to try it.

Alternatively, I'm looking at Trials of Mana, RE3make, and the Star Wars souls game(I suck at and hate souls games, but I heard this one is really good and not as hard as the typical souls games).

Botw doesn't really have crafting per se.

You don't make anything from scratch, you just pick up or buy armor sets and then you upgrade them with materials.

Also, personally I didn't really mind the weapon breaking. The game is pretty generous with weapons and I never found myself in a situation where I desperately needed them with none in hand.

Yeah. There are weapons everywhere. I had to upgrade my slots because I always had too many. Some of the first weapons are pretty breakable. But then you find ones that last pretty long. And you can even sort of buy some at one point.

There's not really any crafting. You do cook food, though. There are some people who can make special weapons if you being them the right parts, though. And if you have amiibos, you can get weapons that way, as well...

Imo the complaints about the breakable weapons are overblown. Not that it isn't annoying sometimes but you can upgrade your weapon capacity and you'll be swimming in weapons faster than you can break them at some point. Though I do understand that the principle alone can be off-putting.

As for Star Wars, there are difficulty settings and you can change the difficulty on the fly. There's also no unlockables or anything tied to any of the difficulties so you can play at the level you're most comfortable with. I suck at the Souls series and haven't beaten any of them but I got the platinum trophy for Star Wars while playing on the second hardest difficultly the whole time. Some of the boss battles tore me a new one but it was very enjoyable overall.

the weapon durability in that game killed it for me

a normal sword isn't shattering after three hits, it's just fucking not.

it's excessive and bullshit.

Your exaggerating if you claim it only takes 3 hits to break, the weaker weapons break faster the more powerful ones take MUCH longer to break.

I also think they break the weapons to keep you experimenting instead of just looking for the best weapon and then using that forever.

I agree with SilentSeph and Monopoman that the weapon breaking system is blown a little out of proportion. Its not really that bad. Its not the best at the very beginning. But after a while, its fine... And like T0ffee and I said earlier, youll be pretty full of weapons, even after getting more weapon slots... I constantly have to many. And have even left some hanging on the wall in my house...

I think the weapon system was actually pretty fun

I like always finding new pieces of loot in RPGs and it gets kinda boring when you find something good but then never find anything better

Really this game is nothing like most other Zelda's It's very hard to compare it to any other Zelda directly, it has the most similarities to the first game in the series but even there both games feel very different.

Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess share many more things than this game does to any other entry in the series. I actually think hardcore Zelda fanboys might the most problems with it since it drastically changes things. It's an exploration open world game that has some survival elements disguised as a Zelda game, I enjoyed my time with it greatly and think it is very good but it's not everyone's cup of tea.

In fact the weapon breaking thing is far more common in survival games like Resident Evil where your weapon might not break but you will run out of ammo in a lot of them if you don't conserve it.

My biggest gripe with weapons breaking easily (early game at least) is i wish there was a weapon store. Never have the best weapons in it sure but serviceable weapons for the average enemy strength of that area. Just weird you can buy armor but not weapons.

Ive never ran out of weapons but ive so far ran into the issue plenty of times the enemies where tough enough i wanted to use my stronger weapons bit what they where dropping weapon wise sucked.

Fortunately I tackled guredo area first and got umbrosas fury. Has a bit of a cooldown time but helps immensely if I find myself against a tougher opponent.

Im still playing for the first time but what I do love is ive always called zelda games adventure games genre wise. With this i realize that wasnt completely accurate until this game. Now this game is about adventuring. Just spent like 20 minutes climbing a mountain with no clue if my efforts would be rewarded or id find nothing.

It's very overrated, the world while pretty to look at isn't very fun or worthwhile to explore.

I really wouldn't reccomend it especially if you hate weapon durability.

Youll spend more time trying to figure out what weapons to keep and which to toss.

Weapons. Are. Everywhere.

i loved the freedom of not caring about them tbh. No upgrades, no grind, nothing to craft.

chucking a weapon at an enemy rarely lost its appeal.

Most enemy encounters are are strictly optional too.

You don't make anything from scratch

You do craft food and potions/elixirs though. And for some areas of the game you need to be able to craft some or buy some to advance due to the weather.

The durability thing isn't that big of an issue. (Except on the hard difficulty, which can be ridiculous at times due to weapon durability.)
The biggest issue with the game is repetitiveness. You fight the same handful of enemies over and over again, and shrines don't offer that much variety either. Especially the lazy combat shrines...

Besides that, the game is very fun. The sequel definitely has a great foundation to build off of too.

Oh, and as for durability. There is a weapon that doesn't break, but it requires some play time to acquire.

Yeah this game is far more realistic, most games they have very limited numbers of weapons because in most games they don't break. In this one since they break you will literally come upon 10-20 of them in the manner of 5 minutes or so in a lot of cases. It's more like real life how many swords, spears etc.. you would find in a ravaged battlefield or off the corpse of enemies.

The game also teaches you the ways of the speed runner, if you watch most speed runners they ignore 90% of enemies unless they have to kill them to progress or the enemies are damn annoying. In BoW why bother fighting most enemies it's just not worth it in a lot of cases.

It depends on what you mean by worthwhile. Because a lot of it is really cool. And tell their own story. I really liked exploring ruins of the towns long gone. And some have journals to talk about what happened. And some have clues to talk about stuff... It's kind cool... And theorists definitely love it. So much to build theories off of...

I was going to mention that. But while it doesn't break, it still needs a cooldown, rendering it useless for a while, IIRC... So, while it's not broken, It still acts as one, and still takes up a slot...

Short Answer: Play BotW. It is a pretty incredible experience and what smaller issues you may have with it are easily overshadowed by all the joy you'll find within.

Some of the issues, like weapon breaking, seem like a bigger annoyance at first but once you realize that the game is using those systems to try to teach you a new approach to playing a Zelda game, you'll discover a really liberating sense of empowerment. This really is the first Zelda game since the original (and maybe Link Between Worlds) that lets you approach the game on your own terms.

It's good. Like...REALLY good.

I hated BotW. As I see it, its for people not old enough to buy Witcher 3.

The only reason to play it is to complete the Zelda franchise i guess, but other than that it is one of the many Switch purchases I regret.
