Maybe it's time to stop paying migrant workers pennies to pick your strawberries. Start paying Americans pennies to pick them instead.

No better time than now to think of a change in diet. You don't need food from these shitty factory farms.

Anyone with half a brain would be able to see that widespread food shortages would be one of the (many) consequences of these lockdowns. Nobody thinks that it's going to affect them, and all you ever hear is "Wah, muh stock market/oil futures!" In actuality, this is going to hurt rich people the least. Who's going to feel it the most? You and me.

Who knew that food doesn't grow, process, and distribute itself?

The supply chain is really only going to get disrupted where many people are working right next to each other in nasty conditions, i.e. mass herding factory farms. Fucking petri dishes of disease.

I made a topic about how there will be meat shortages after hearing about it from the people who buy the meat for grocery stores and CE just had a meltdown over it. They dont want to hear it from any source. They want to pretend its not going to happen and that everything will be normal if they just keep acting like it is.

This reminds me of the people who were saying the lockdowns would only last 2 weeks. And everything is fine several weeks ago. The denial over the possibility things will not get better is kinda sad. When social distancing isn't going to make corona go away. It just to buy time for a vaccine/better testing and not overwhelm hospital.

Anyone paying attention can see these shortages coming. There also might be an egg one too with all the chickens getting killed.

No one is saying there wont be shortages, we're saying youre a bad person for encouraging hoarding

I stocked up on meat yesterday. If there is no supply issues they can just restock the shelves. If there ends up being a shortage you got yourself a several month supply. I regret not doing this with disinfectant spray/wipes then it became hard to find it in all the stores in my area. I can't play it safe I live in a hard hit state.

It's not the lockdowns causing these disruptions; it's the disease. These are essential businesses that didn't close down and a lot of their workers got sick.

tbh he did it to me. all i wanted was a package of chicken patties and maybe some hot dogs as i usually buy for myself in the month.

supposedly it counts as hoarding in some fucked up way.
it's getting cleared bad, walmart had very few frozen items. costco had zero chicken/beef or pork products.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/26/business/meat-processing-plants-coronavirus/index.html
"We have so much food in America and we have so much choice that I am not worried that there will not be enough food. There might not be enough of one particular brand, or one particular cut, but that the state of our food supply chain, in general, is robust. The state of some specific items within that supply chain is vulnerable and it's at risk," explained Niederhoff.

The sentiment is echoed by the North American Meat Institute (NAMI), an industry trade association that provides guidance and regulatory assistance to meat packers and processors, which points out that a few days with fewer options does not equal a shortage

You keep posting a link that explicitly says the products people want arent going to be available. Like if you were trying to tell people that they wont starve then this would be a good rebuttal but there are going to be shortages on the products people actually want.

I keep explicitly posting a link that says the supply chain is robust and one cut being missing for a few days isn't reason to say "the supply chain is breaking down" or "you should hoard meat while you can."

This has been coming for a while. It's not fear mongering. We definitely won't run out of food altogether, especially certain fruits and veggies which can be flash frozen and we have in abundance, but might run low on your favorite meats.

The world has a meat problem, anyway. I know this won't do anything to fix that, but hopefully there's not a strong kickback once meay starts coming back. Expect shortages and higher prices, not a lack of food. Eat some rice, soy, tofu, and beans.

This sounds like less a direct result of Coronavirus and more a result of it exposing another way that corporations are abusing the desperately poor to work in shitty situations for low pay

https://www.texasobserver.org/covid-19-tyson-east-texas-follow-up/amp/

the places that are being shut down for this were already shitty, unsafe places

of course that wont be the lesson anyone in charge takes away from all this

No, but he knows some guy that says there are going to be shortages, so he's encouraging people to hoard whatever their favorite cuts are in case a store is out of stock for a few days.

Yet the places packaging food have been essential so you can't blame the lock down on shortages. No you have to blame those places being hot beds for the virus, which would have happened if nothing was shutdown.
