This might not be helpful to everyone but if you work from home and set your schedule, I've found this is way more pleasurable than just paying attention to the clock or setting alarms. Apple Music lists the total playtime of any single album and I'm pretty sure Spotify does the same. I've basically been setting myself up with 2-4 albums for each two hour block to keep track of time and it's so much more pleasurable when compared to just waiting for an alarm. When the music is done I'll take a short break/get up before going back to work.

I can't really 100% logically explain why it's any better but it definitely does pull my mind away from paying attention to the clock which tends to make things drag for me.

Anyone ever done something similar with playlists/albums?

Yep! When I worked 10 hours at a car plant it was how I stayed sane. I forced myself not to look at the clock and just counted time passed as "albums listened to." Helped so much.

Nice, I'm not sure why I didn't bother to try this sooner. I mean I'd listen to music but never really tried to use it as a marker of any kind. This year I've been pretty lax on following new releases after I changed jobs but I think with this new method I should probably get way more exposure to new stuff. Sounds like you have a good approach as well.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. My job isn't as disengaging as factory work which I've done before but it is pretty much something I know like the back of my hand at this point so it's similar in that regard for sure.
