I was thinking that, but then remembering usually ordering a Diet Coke when I just mean a brown soda pop.

And I still make Xerox copies.

And use a Sawzall that's a reciprocating saw not made by Milwaukee Tool.

Oh gotcha. Generic Trademark or Proprietary Eponym. So it is a kind of Eponym.
@coinstarcad , my bad your were right.

Other names that are generic trademarks, off the top of my head, are Flashlight and Velcro.
technically a flashlight is a electric torch, and flashlight was just the name of the original, invented by a man named David Misell for American Electrical Novelty and Manufacturing Company (which eventually became Energizer).
and Velcro is just a brand name for a hook and loop fastener. Thats a mouthful though so most people just call it velcro.

There is a very large section of the country that calls pop, pop. mostly called the Midwest. You strange folks in the south call it coke...idk how the hell you know i'd want a mt dew if I say a coke...um yeah explain that one to me please? But anyways the 2 coasts seem to call it soda, Midwest calls it pop and southerns call it coke.

Kleenex is a brand and, bandaid is a brand.
its the same situation of generic trademark. Just cause you dont personally called sodas/ pops coke doesnt mean nobody does.

This just reminded me of a couple more that we use at the hospital: everyone here calls elastic wrap ace bandage whether its Ace brand or not.
And all IV moisture barriers are called Aqua Guard even though the ones we are supplied are Anchor brand lol

If a waitress comes up to me and asks what type of pop I would like to get. I'd know they are asking me for a certain brand.

If one comes up and asks me if I want a coke then I'm assuming the place only offers Coke...because it's a brand of drink, not a type of drink.

I have seen Coke used as an interchangeable word for "cola" type pop. Mostly off/store brand ones, not Pepsi.

I was just discussing with someone in another topic why Americans are always so loathing of other Americans.
I hypothesized that its because the USA is so big physically that theres a lot a inter-cultures based in different areas, and this is basically what I was talking about.
The midwest is stupid, no the south is stupid.
