i'm giving it a listen. i don't know much about most electronic music either, but i think it's kinda chillstep-ish? i stumbled upon this really awesome chillstep solo project awhile back called Killigrew. might wanna check that out. i would always get youtube recs for Blackmill and Electus too whenever i'd listen to Killigrew. never got into either of them though.
Giving a real quick sample of Killigrew, it does sound like it might be what I'm looking for. I'll give the others a listen too in a bit.

Sounds like chillwave, kinda. With a little chillstep, as the other poster noted, and maybe some chiptune/video gamey influences.

Here are a few things that sound similar-ish.

Tycho - Dive

Blackmill - Miracle

Port RGB - Going Online

Just from quick listens I'm liking these ones as well. There's definitely a big chiptune/video game influence in the ones I posted. The stuff I posted is by the bassist and guitarist of the metal band Periphery and they both show a lot of video game influence.

Doesn't trance build up to a bass drop though? These don't really do that. I could be wrong as I know very little about electronic subgenres.

It's not unheard of but usually that's not what happens.

Give some of these videos a listen. Skip around to get a general idea.

Completely off topic, and I am not asking you to listen to anything..
But I just realized Bach was doing a Bass Drop like 400 years ago.
When I noticed it I was like, Oh, damn, he fucking just did that.

~Not even joking.

Haha yeah that's not really a modern thing. I mean, it's completely different now but it's definitely a concept that dates back quite a bit. There is still a lot of really unique and innovative music but nearly all musical concepts have been covered years and years ago. For example many people thing that harsh vocals is a thing that started in metal but the vikings actually used both guttural growls and higher pitched screams in their music as well.

I kinda like this too. It's not really like what I posted but it's like electronic and shoegaze mixed. Kinda cool.

It's oddly hypnotic.

Its definitely got the same hypnotic and ethereal quality that shoegaze has.

Ya, and I have a soft spot in my heart for sad songs.
I'm not trying to say I am not an upbeat person.
But sad songs are a good thing.

Sometimes I can say things on the piano that I couldn't really in words.

Zabriskie Point outtake, because the director thought it was too sad.

that's why i like Killigrew's sound. it sounds simultaneously haunting and uplifting. i commented as such on one of the videos on his official channel, and he responded about how the sound he's going for is inspired by "finding hope in hopelessness."

Yes, we laugh to keep from crying!!

There is a B52's video of the song, Give Me Back My Man.
Right after a plaintiff, almost manic screaming Cindy Wilson goes into a happy dance...I love it!!
