Yup, the joys of digital... It's only a matter of time before everyone leaves that mess like I did. Never looked back and couldn't be happier.

apparently Sega lost the rights to some of the music in the game and can no longer legally sell it, on Steam or anywhere

Idk I feel like having games yanked is a pretty big inconvenience personally.

Here's a tip guys, if you make a game, make sure you own any music you put in it so this doesn't happen to you.

this doesn't really count as a digital inconvenience. the game as it is cannot be sold by the company anywhere, digital or not. yet, whoever already owns it, digital or not, can still play it.

For how long though? We've already seen examples of games being removed completely (PT). The fact they 'can' do it should be concerning since you don't have a lot going for you to get a refund. You say it can't happen but if it does it's too late.

This is on top of all the other bad Steam does. We don't have to explain that again though, I don't trust digital in general.

1 - Konami are dicks that show they go overboard when they hate someone, and that they don't care about gamers at this point.
2 - It was free, the only reason they got away with their request for Sony to remove it completely. Everything else on PSN removed from store has remained on accounts.

if PT had cost anything, it would have been handled differently, yeah

the legal issues involved with completely removing access to a product you've paid for (and doesn't have a justifiable service life, like an MMO's servers dying out) are not something they want to deal with

I think hes mistaken. Digital is terrible and only gives the publisher or developer the ability to take away something youve paid for. Although I guess in this case if youve already bought it you can still play it. But there are examples where this isnt the case. Ive had digital games that Ive paid for become unable to be played.

You're not getting the point. I know it was free which is why there wasn't a meltdown in the community. It's the example it sets that they can shut it down, remove it from your drive (so I heard with one of those updates), and you can't do anything except disconnect from the net for good. It's not the only game lost either as licenses expired. Not to mention Other OS.

They tuck the legal BS into the agreement so there wouldn't be much to deal with on their part.

I've heard that, but seen no proof, and people still have the game demo on their systems. I've since lumped that with the people that claim a system update bricked their system completely (several times in a row somehow, with some of the people claiming this).

Sure, companies could argue that the text (on both physical and digital copies) used to prevent piracy (because we don't own the code, we can't just do what we want) allows them to take away all our games, but any company doing that would basically ruin things for themselves. No company not already on the verge of shutting down is going to take away everyone's purchases, the end of the world taking away internet access is a bigger worry at this point. And really, at that point, we would have other problems.

That's one of the things I was picturing. Smaller devs come and go since they have less funding than AAA's. A bad game or two could wipe 'em out and take their digital along with it. Everyone loses.

Like I said before, it may not have gone there yet but I don't wanna gamble my games on what happens when it does.

I own games from multiple companies that went under. They have to stop selling, but don't remove them from accounts.

When I say companies in my previous post, I'm referring to ones like Valve, Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo. Say what you will about them, they aren't going to fail and close down after a bad week.

Which really pisses me off, tbh. I thought it was shitty indie hipster garbage, but then I wound up enjoying that indie hipster garbage and now I can't get the associated game!

Also I waited too long to get a lot of the Marvel games.

Yes, company that made the game had the license for like a year or two. They didn't own the IP after all.

Yeah, they didn't plan that, you can 'always' buy for a friend even if you can't buy for yourself, so that message remains on purchase disabled games (different from removed games, the store page is there without option to purchase, sometimes so DLCs can remain to owners).
