If only.

Also so what a terrible year and start of a new decade.

First we almost go to war with Iran then the Corona Virus and now this? Fuck me man.

Maybe we can replace ours with Japanese honeybees? Or would they be crossbred by accident and lose the defense they have?

I don't consider bee keepers to be an expert on hornet migration patterns. More importantly, I'm sure they said the same thing about Africanized Honeybees, which for the most part have stayed where it's warm.

They need to kill every hive on sight now before it spreads. They should also try to engineer them like they have done with other pest insects in which they send out altered ones that go back to the hives and cause those in contact to become sterile.

These things are no joke. They are strong enough to sting through jeans. Their sting is supposed to be extremely painful and it only takes a handful of stings to send an adult to the hospital. Luckily, they arent super aggressive so as long as you dont bother one or the hive, you should be okay.

Okay, let me list two examples of things that got worse doing that sort of solution
Due to slowly running out of American Chestnuts due to logging, we brought over Chinese Chestnuts (which aren't even a tree good for logging), Chestnut blight basically wipes out the American Chestnut.

African Honeybees end up in South America, breed with European Honeybees, now we have Killer Bees.

Because honeybees didn't have enough problems. Let's add the biggest hornet in the world to the mix. Best part is they burrow so enjoy stepping on a mound of these motherfuckers

There are some environmentalists who are thrilled honeybees are dying in North America because they are considered an invasive species. They pretty much supplanted all of North America's native pollinators.

Also, the hierarchy for avoiding flying, stinging insects:

Bees mind their business
Wasps are assholes
Hornets are psychopaths

I agree with that hierarchy.
Also, I don't get some environmentalist being thrilled about honeybees possibly dying off in North America. Last time I checked, bees in general are very important and critical to the environment for several reasons. Hornets on the other hand are psychopaths and don't need to be here.

If these things get a strong foothold in the states they will decimate the honeybee population. Japanese honeybees have a defense mechanism against them, but our native bees don't and are completely defenseless.

The only insects that scare me are wasps and hornets, having something like this land on me could make me pass out in shock.

Japanese honeybees, huh? Maybe we should just start using those now. Then again, we saw how well that thinking went with the Cane Toad.

In other news, parakeets are starting to become more and more numerous in northern cities, typically using man-made heat sources to stay warm during the winter. Yes, THOSE parakeets. They've been released a lot before into the wild, but they didn't ever seem to survive more than a year or so until the mid-1980s. They are now officially considered a common bird in London, with at least 30k of them there.

Parakeets are actually a rather nasty pest too. They have a habit of pecking at and otherwise "ruining for sale" more food than they can eat, often dropping one bit to go for a new one. They tend to go after fruits the most, but some other crops are also on their list. They have a habit of getting into tree holes earlier in the year than native species (i.e. other birds and in some cases bats), and as such are good at displacing local populations. For the time being, they are still seemingly limited in the cooler climes to locations where people emit enough heat to get them through the winter, and as such they may fortunately not be good at actually ruining crops in too many areas that get below freezing during the year. Who knows, they may become the next Pidgeon as far as city birds go.

Still, at least they would be easier to control than other potential pests. They tend to be brightly colored, and I'm sure one can train some birds of prey to start eating them.
