funny how other countries, while still suffering economic setbacks haven't encountered this economic/social apocalypse that's supposedly occurring in the states

If the economic situation was so shitty in the US that you can't go two months without everyone apparently running out of money and starving then maybe it's time to rethink your economic shit

We actually don't know if it worked yet because it doesn't happen in just a month. It could very well be we will still be seeing cases next year spike in the United States but by then Sweden could be completely over the hump. It's not some crazy choice, it was good that one stable country tried this---so we know.

I mean, immunity IS whats going to happen everywhere, eventually.

And lol @ the people eating Mcdonalds but talking about "no half measures". What do you think this lockdown is? It's not a full quarantine to find out who's sick and who's not---this all could be seriously over in two weeks if we did that--it was a half measure that made millions of people more dependent on the government and saw profits rise for the biggest employers in the United States...Fast Food and Walmart.

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/maryland-hiding-testing-kits-purchased-south-korea-us/story?id=70434840

Hogan cited the fate of 3 million N95 masks purchased by the state of Massachusetts --- all of which were confiscated in March by the federal government at the port of New York -- as the main reason for taking extra precautions to secure his states order of 500,000 COVID-19 testing kits from South Korea.

The tests, worth over $9 million, were directed last week to Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport instead of Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia, and both the Maryland National Guard and Maryland State Police were on hand to receive the shipment and transport the tests to a secure, undisclosed location, he said.

Problem 1-- The US population is higher, more varied than most in the world

Problem 2 - Our central bank would have to tell the treasury to print the money, loan it to to the government at interest, inflating the money supply, meaning homes will be worth less, peoples investments will be crushed and generations later will pay off the debt. Only the biggest corporations would survive. This is because the United States already carries the highest deficit in the history of the world.

Some people seem to think money is created out of nothing, but it is NOT.

This, this, so much this. More testing would mean better data, better data would mean better choices....what kind of country can fling $1200 + at every home in America but can't provide a test which effectively costs like $3 and someones labor after research costs? it's about being able to establish targeted quarantines and trace contacts in areas with few cases

when there's no ability to do that the only thing you can do is tell everyone to stay home. and then when they're staying home you are supposed to get the testing working, so they can stop staying at home.

The goal posts will be forever moved for most of us. Two weeks quarantine of individuals with symptoms. Four weeks "flatten the curve." Then more time was added because "We don't want the hospitals getting overwhelmed." Then it's because we need a severe reduction in cases or to the point where there are no new cases (is that even possible?)

They should just tell it like it is, where it's "Stay home and rot until we have the vaccine necessary for you to return to some semblance of a life."

they (fauci, CDC, every medical expert) told it like it was:

"we failed at establishing testing and contact tracing initially, so we need you all to stay home until we have adequate testing, and to prevent hospital overload"

then a bunch of right wing terrorists used their influence to lie to people about what the message was because their stocks were falling and they were eager to sacrifice human lives to bring them back up

If you look at populations affected per State this isn't really the case though, our worst is worse and our best counties have 0 - 10 cases.

Also Sweden is like 12th in the world in elderly population.

And why look at it that way as opposed to the country as a whole? Places like New York City far exceed the population density anywhere in Sweden, which will drive up numbers.

considering there is a clearly defined, well-communicated path to follow, and our government is choosing to skip the most important step, yes, it's just about keeping stocks (and thus the chief executive's re-election probabilities) propped up.

if preserving people's lives is not important to them, preserving their way of life is also not important to them. it's really that simple.

i'd love for us to re-open, after appropriate testing levels have been achieved. i'd love for us to preserve our way of life.
