I've seen Majora's Mask on more "best of the decade" lists than either Smash game or FFX to be fair, and more than any other Zelda game from that decade.

Also MM more or less verified its GOTD strength in 2015. At worst it was slightly weaker than Brawl "normally".

I've said before, if any game has escaped the 'Bethesda bad' sentiment that's become more and more prevalent since FO4 (let alone 76), it's New Vegas, which gets lionized in a lot of places for being the Fallout game NOT developed by Bethesda itself. When ppl trash talk FO4 and 76, NV is the ideal they're held against.

I mean that's what I assumed as well (I briefly had NV over GoW), but something's clearly happened to NV this contest. Alternatively, GoW's actually legit and just got SFFed into the ground by Witcher 3.

I meant New Vegas declined from 2015 because that contest took place in the midst of Fallout 4 hype. Nothing (much) to do with 76.

I find it hard to believe NV would boost that much purely from hype from 4 or that it only reaps the benefits of hype from other Fallout titles but get none of the backlash.

I don't think Fallout 4 did new vegas any favors. if anything it created anti-hype for the series in general.

Using 2017 GotY polls, Smash would probably get around 35-37% (against BOTW) if you assume equal levels of SFFing done to both Odyssey and SSBU.

Thats what I have in my contest entry. But Smash games have a cult following & I can see it getting upper 30s to lower 40s.

Just cooked. Yoblazer has a point here; we've never really seen "western SFF" before, so Witcher 3 might be humbled a little. We also know Persona is going to rally its ass off, and it'll be more effective against Witcher than it was against another JRPG.

That fits in line with it being inbetween MM and ALttP. BotW vs. MM is going to be a good bonus match if it happens.

Yeah i get it, people on this site want to see it win as an underdog. I just dont believe it belongs in any reasonable discussion about game of the decade. It lost awards left and right the year it came out to other games that are considered much more influential to the decade as a whole. Never heard anyone even mention it a year after it came out in conversations. People still talk about skryim, mass effect, The witcher 3, etc to this day.

then again, who am i to say. I just play games.

Xenoblade went from a single niche game that Nintendo of America long couldn't be bothered to localize to a well-established and growing series (Xenoblade 2 is easily the best-selling Xeno game ever) due to XB1 being so well-received and beloved. No shit it's not as big as Skyrim or Witcher 3 - it's still obviously an extremely beloved game in its own right, and only seems to be gaining in strength.

Xenoblade has become a bona fide franchise since then, and has gained in stature through representation in Smash.

Then again I watch a lot of The Runaway Guys (Xenoblade is Chuggaaconroy's favorite game), so yeah.

A lot of games that got very far in the previous GOTD tournament have decreased in popularity. Brawl would never beat Melee in this day and age. Likewise Metroid Prime wouldn't lose to Fallout 3. What else? TP vs Galaxy would also be much closer

Metroid Prime probably beats every game in this bracket other than Breath of the Wild, Smash, Witcher, and maybe Dark Souls.

Are we talking bonus matches? If last time is any indication and we get a full slate of 4, we'll get the semifinal losers paired up. Ultimate vs. Skyrim/Dark Souls would be worth seeing and could at least give us a point of reference for X-Stats adjustments, even if they wouldn't be totally accurate.

We could also do GOTD runnerups as a bonus match. FFX/Witcher 3 would be interesting.

I know Brawl was technically the runnerup, and I guess it would be interesting to see what it would do now, but yeah, give me FFX instead if we'd already have one Smash game in a bonus match.

Yeah fo sho. Posted a page back that i was glad to finally see it lose. Thats what started this convo.

also, to be completely fair, the matchups it won up to now were deserved.

Had xenoblades been put in division 5 it wouldnt have made it past one or two matchups. Division 4 is a much easier division to get through. Meanwhile many of the potential winners of the GOTD were put into the same starting brackets to knock each other out over in D5.

kind of lame.

DS/Skyrim feels like DS is going to destroy Skyrim early while Skyrim does so late given how the trends have been so far.

It's going to come doen to how badly Skrim loses the first quarter of the match.

I predict Skyrim will take the lead after the first five minutes, then Dark Souls will jump up and win the first hour. After that, it depends on how much of a lead Dark Souls got.

Mario Galaxy 2 looked pretty good too, but that game I can certainly see Xenoblade beating without much difficulty (Odyssey was the top Mario game of this contest).

Xenoblade as game of the decade somewhere else would probably be seen as a respectable hipster pick, people know of the franchise and know that it's good, it was one of the most well-reviewed games in its release year and Smash obviously boosted its notability, very few people seem to dislike it too

Outside of a Xenoblade fansite, I doubt anywhere would crown them GotD. Any place where it would do well it would lose to BotW and/or SMO etc.
