let's be fair.

Suspend evictions. People need a place to live.

But the landlords should get a paycheck every month for the same dollar amount of the money they didn't perceive in rent, it's only fair.

honestly i don't disagree here, tenants are living for free, landlords are stuck paying all the bills, and a lot of landlords are just people trying to make a living who depend on tenants. Yeah the situation sucks for everyone. I don't disagree with people not paying rent, they need all the money they can get. But we also need to provide that same relief for landlords. I know they were looking into some kind of fund or something

I do feel a property tax is is warranted and should happen, but a mortgage, hmmm... The idea of overleveraged landlords crushed under the weight of their AirBnb investments is quite appealing.

The objective is to see to a housing collapse so that rent prices won't be so astronomically high. The Pandemic has proven Airbnb has directly inflating housing prices. As such, I will accept innocents getting caught in the crossfire. I suppose I am open to rent control to protect the innocents.

I mean there is a degree of truth to the situation they're in, I do believe the whole "eat the landlords!" crowd has always been insane.

The problem lies with the people who are taking advantage and deliberately not paying rent, hoping it just goes away for a few months.

landlords deserve a reasonable amount of pay per month.
kinda glad there's me and a couple other tenants who can continue paying (despite the crisis).

though there's rent protection until july but i wouldn't want to use it (landlord has to make money too).

The tenants are required to pay the money back within some period of time after the freezes end. If a landlord was living beyond their means well... Let the tenants take over the lease or something.

So if the landlords were living beyond their means, then what?

I'm not talking about the huge rental companies nationwide that build cookie cutter buildings and rent them out, I am talking about the regular people who rent a 2nd or 3rd property for income, this is not sticking it to "the man".

the GOP's greatest hit was convincing poor and lower middle class people that upper middle class and moderately wealthy people are "the man" and deserve scorn, while the millionaires and corporations get praise and love.

Rent prices in NY are absolutely disgusting anyway. I'm still paying rent, and thankfully my landlords are decent people, but I really don't sympathize with the necessary evil of being a landlord
Because it's not a necessary evil. Don't buy up more property than you need to live just so you can exploit the human need for shelter. Landlords are the reason rent is so fucking high in NY. They buy up properties, create an artificial "housing shortage" to justify rent being skyhigh (and then get a sweet tax write off on the ones that don't get rented).
Buy the property you need to live and then get a real fucking job.

This basically.

Keep in mind most landlords are like just a guy who owns only two properties, lives in one, and rents out the other to pay the mortgage on the one he lives in.

Now the guy he's renting to doesn't have to pay and can't be evicted but he be still needs to pay his bank who isn't anywhere near as negotiable as a landlord.

Airlines don't need a fucking bailout. Airlines should just furlough all their employees and have the government pay their employees directly with stimulus checks.

Yes because landlords feel that their investments should somehow be immune to market forces because housing is a standard human need.
