Wasnt a trash film or anything like that but the whole thing was just very straightforward, very predictable, just a standard war drama. Did I miss something?

One of the things that won it so much acclaim was the cinematography. It was a "single-shot" film and as far as those go 1917 was edited very well. It's very difficult to find the cuts. It's impressive from a movie-making standpoint, but you might have to be a bit of a film geek to appreciate it.

It's made to present the illusion of being shot with a single camera the entire time, but they do multiple takes and reshoot small portions to sort of stitch the edits together. 1917 was done extremely well using this method.

oh ok maybe as a technical exercise it was brilliant, but as far as the movie itself goes the storytelling was just too superficial and the characters had no real depth. Disappointing.

Fair enough. I'm not trying to sell you into changing your opinion, just offering what little perspective I can as to why people made such a big deal out of it.

It was the cinematography that people liked so much but that alone doesnt make a movie good imo. it didnt suck but it really wasnt anything special --- Every man with a microphone thinks he can tell you what he loves the most ... War movies are usually boring imoDefinitely more susceptible to turning into a bore than most other genres. Saving private Ryan was pretty good, and Forrest Gump (if that can be considered a war film) --- *walks away* ... Copied to Clipboard!
